Matthew Gagliano, a senior from Rowan County Senior High School, was recently named to the KHSSCA All-State Soccer East second team.
This is the third year in a row that Gagliano was selected All-State, with the first year being his sophomore year.
During his sophomore season, Gagliano was the only sophomore player in the state selected All-State and the first time in Rowan County’s storied soccer history. In fact, Gagliano is the only player from Rowan to make the All-State team three years in a row.
Gagliano had some pretty impressive stats starting from his first year playing in the 8th grade with 23 goals; 9th grade with 5 goals; 10th grade with 18 goals/5 assists; 11th grade with 23 goals/9 assists and 12th grade year with 33 goals/7 assists.
Over his soccer career he has played striker, outside midfield and center midfield.
Gagliano has made the All-District and All-Region teams every year starting with his sophomore year and played on the team that won the 16th Region and sent the Vikings to the state’s Elite 8 his freshman year.
“Matthew has been a tremendous soccer player for the four years he’s been a part of the team. His work ethic and determination on the field was unmatched. He is one of the best all around players I have coached, gave his all both offensively and defensively. He was a captain of the team starting his sophomore year, his intensity and effort during games and practices raised the level of play of his teammates,” said Rowan County Head Soccer Coach Max Hammond.
