Rowan County distance runners represented the Vikings well at the KTCCCA State meet March 2 at Mason County.
The Vikings had several runners place individually and the boys’ 4x800 meter relay team placed third.
The team of Lucas Hart, Aaron Smart, Trad Egleston and Jonah Stanley ran a time of 9:58.52 to finish behind Martha Layne Collins and Mason County. The Vikings finished third out of six teams competing in the 4x800 relay.
Egleston, Stanley and Hart each placed individually. Egleston finished third in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:00.12, Stanley finished fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:12.88, and Hart placed 7th in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:24.15.
Smart and George Thacker also competed individually in the 800-meter dash. Smart finished 25th out of 40 runners and Thacker finished 34th.
The girls’ team was represented at the middle school level by Autumn and Ariah Egleston.
Autumn placed fifth out of 22 runners in the 1600-meter run. Her time of 6:10.79 would have put her in 10th place in the AA high school girls 1600m run finals. Ariah finished 10th overall in the 800-meter dash, but placed eighth in scoring. She ran a time of 3:05.77.
