Rowan County elementary cross country teams wrapped up a successful season under Coach Jason Lykins at the Meet of Champions, the state tournament for elementary school runners.

The highly competitive event hosted an astonishing showing of the state’s top ranked athletes.

Boys 4th grade and under snagged a top 10 finish out of more than 40 schools. The division consisted of 379 athletes.

Girls 4th grade and under placed 12th in the team event, led by second grader Shelby Lykins. Lykins placed 34th out of 368 runners and was able to capture a highly sought-after state medal.

The boys 5th and 6th grade team made yet another strong showing at the Meet of Champions after taking the top prize at the regional Area 7 competition for the past four consecutive years!

While the Girls 5th-6th grade has yet to form enough runners for team competition at the state level, Rowan County was well represented with solo runner Megan Glover. Glover has been a valuable asset for the Rowan County dynamics for the past several years and is a well-seasoned veteran of the event.
