The Rowan County Middle School’s soccer teams are still undefeated.

Last Thursday, the Lady Vikings shut out Simons Middle School, 1-0.

Hannah Neeper scored the winning goal with 6:20 left to play.

“I thought we all tried our hardest and we played like a team,” Neeper said. “We couldn’t have won unless every person on the field was working hard and together and that’s exactly what we did.”

Amy Roe and Rachel Schack were in goal. Amy made a save with less than two minutes to play and preserved the win.

“There was a lot of ball movement and talking going on among our team out on the field,” Player Jessie Fugett said. “Also, we couldn’t have got the job done without our defense.”

On Tuesday, the gals in green took down Mason County Middle School, 4-0.

“The team continues to get better every time out,” Coach Randy Wallace said. “This was a good opportunity to get everyone some playing time and all played well.”

Haley DeVaney put up two points while Neeper and Bailee Pennington had one each.

“Getting my first goal was so exiting,” Pennington said. “But we know to continue our streak we have to play harder each time.”

Roe and Schack were once again on goal for the shut out.

“We have good team effort even when people are subbed in and out of the game,” player Kara Lewis said. “We are doing good but we still have room to improve.”

The Lady Vikings are now 5-0 on the season.

In boys’ soccer action, the Vikings shut out Fleming County on the road last week, 4-0.

Trevor Newsome, Sebastian Taylor, Luke Thaxton and Justin Graham had one goal each for the win.

On Tuesday, the Vikings played host to Mason County for another 4-0 victory.

The teams were scoreless at the half, but Rowan’s boys managed to pull out all the stops in the end.

“It was a good defensive battle until Trevor Newsome scored our first goal early in the second half,” Coach Gerald Conn said. “Justin Graham followed up with another goal soon after.”

Xavier Long put in the third goal on a nice assist from Luke Thaxton with a crossing pass. The final goal came from Sebastian Taylor with less than a minute to play.

“Ty Alderman did a tremendous job at goal keeper,” Conn said. “He had 10 stops on goal for the shut out.”

The Vikings are 5-0 on their season and played host to Russell Thursday (after press time.) Rowan’s boys will head to East Carter on Saturday.
