Jeff Arnold throws the heat in Wednesday's match-up.

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Sophomore pitcher Jeff Arnold and junior centerfielder J.D. Ashbrook led the Morehead State Baseball Eagles to a 16-6 win over Marshall Wednesday afternoon at Allen Field. The Herd won the completion of a game suspended due to darkness in Huntington on March 4, 6-4, on a walk-off two-run home run by Kenny Socorro in the bottom of the 16th inning.

In the regularly scheduled contest, Arnold (2-0) pitched six innings of four-hit, one run baseball. Ashbrook led the MSU offensive attack with three home runs, a single, four runs scored and four runs batted in. Michael Bottoms homered and drove in two runs. Luke Bainer had a pinch-hit two-run blast. Drew Lee had three hits, and Travis Redmon drove in three runs.

Victor Gomez and Thor Meeks each drove in two runs for Marshall. Herd starter Greg Williams (0-1) was chased in the fifth inning after giving up nine runs, seven of which were earned.

In the suspended contest that was picked up with Morehead State batting in the top of the 13th inning, the two teams battled on even terms until Socorro's game-winning home run. Marshall relievers Ryan Kiel and Chad Johnson combined to pitch four innings of one-hit, shutout baseball after the game was resumed. Johnson (1-0) pitched the top of the 16th and earned the win. Bottoms (1-2), who was pitching for the Eagles when the game was suspended, finished up and took the loss.

Both teams ended play today with 5-7 records. MSU will play host to Canisius for a four-game series this weekend. A Friday single game is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., and Sunday's wrap-up to the series will begin at noon.
