In light of the recent finalizing of the House appropriations committee’s global aid allocations for 2019, I wanted to both congratulate, and thank Congressman Hal Rogers for his crucial role in these decisions.
As an example, the State and Foreign Operations subcommittee increased our Tuberculosis global support budget by 41 million dollars, up from last year to a total of 302 million dollars. The United States continued support in addressing these issues has been responsible for bettering the lives of a countless number of people around the world.
Congressman Rogers had a very influential role as the chairman of the subcommittee in the House, and his support for these issues greatly impacted their ultimate passing.
I hope that the Congressman will encourage other members of the subcommittee to support these issues with him and that he will consider spearheading support for issues in global health such as Tuberculosis, and more generally on all matters of foreign healthcare aid. Along with this, ensuring that USAID and other foreign support agencies are held accountable for reporting results to congress is extremely important to confirming the effectiveness of our relief and treatment efforts.
Thank you again to Congressman Rogers, and I trust he will continue working to make a difference in the lives of people around the world for many years to come.
