A fire was reported on the roof of St. Claire HealthCare, near the emergency room entrance around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday evening.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

Firefighters probed the area with a thermal camera to check for additional embers.

”Please be assured that the Medical Center is safe and sound. Our roofing contractor apparently caused a small contained fire when the adhesive being applied to our new roof ignited in a section of flashing along a masonry wall," St. Claire HealthCare said on Facebook. "The adhesive was quickly extinguished by the contractor and our Facilities Management team who were present on the roof during this event."

No one was in any danger, according St. Claire HealthCare's statement.

"Out of an abundance of caution, our team requested that the Morehead Fire Department respond and utilize their expertise and technology (thermal imaging capability) to assure a safe environment for all. We received their clearance and all operations have returned to normal," they added.

Morehead-Rowan County EMS, Morehead Fire Department, Morehead Police Department and Emergency Management responded to the scene.

All fire personnel cleared the scene at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday and the building was returned to St. Claire's maintenance personnel. The fire department reported very minor damage.
