FARMERS Officials suspect a man found dead this weekend was the victim of a hit and run.

The body of Anthony Bryan Nickell, 33, of Elliott County was found on Old Mercantile Road off US 60 west after a motorist called 911 at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Nickell was pronounced dead at 8:46 p.m. by Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt.

An autopsy was performed in Frankfort at the state medical examiner’s office on Sunday, Feb. 9.

The cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma.

Northcutt suspects a vehicle was involved in the incident but left the scene.

The investigation is ongoing by Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy Donnie Hall and Northcutt.


FARMERS The Rowan County Coroner’s Office is investigating after a motorist found the body of a man off US 60.

The body was discovered about 8 p.m. Saturday in the middle of Old Mercantile Road.

An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday in Frankfort.
