The Advisory Council for Adult Education is asking for help to put books in the hands of children.

Since 1989 the Advisory Council has sponsored Storybook Christmas. The goal is to provide new books to disadvantaged children between the ages of newborn and 18 years old living in Rowan County.

More than 13,000 books have been collected and distributed to local children within the past 30 years, and organizers hope to carry on this tradition for many years to come.

Reading is a fundamental skill, and experts say that a love for reading begins at an early age and directly affects success in school and work.

New books can be left in decorated boxes at various drop-off sites around the community throughout the month of November. New books will be accepted through November 30.

Tax-deductible monetary donations can be made to MSU Foundation-Storybook Christmas and mailed to MSU Adult Learning Center, 627 E Main Street, 103 Education Services Building, Morehead, KY 40351.

The deadline for monetary donations is Nov. 22. For more information, contact the Adult Learning Center at 783-2871.
