On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Maysville Community and Technical College Rowan Campus located at 400 Rocky Adkins Tech Drive will be hosting the annual Relay for Life of Rowan County. Survivor Registration will begin at 5 p.m. with the opening ceremony for the event beginning at 6 p.m.
Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in 1985, the Relay for Life movement unites communities around the world in celebrating individuals who have been touched by cancer. Participants gather to remember lost loved ones and to raise funds that aid the American Cancer Society in battling cancer by developing therapies, building supportive communities, and providing resources to raise awareness.
The event at the MCTC Rowan Campus will consist of various ceremonies, a silent and live auction, cake walk, DJ and other fun activities. Four hundred participants will join together including a team consisting of staff and faculty members of the MCTC Rowan Campus.
Faculty members Diana Reeder and Dawn Greenfield have worked alongside Chase Barnes from the American Cancer Society to make this event possible. This marks the second year that the MCTC Rowan Campus has hosted the Rowan County Relay for Life event.
