On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Maysville Community and Technical College Rowan Campus located at 400 Rocky Adkins Tech Drive hosted the annual Relay for Life of Rowan County.
Earnings from this event contributed to the more than $20,000 raised so far in 2019 by the Relay for Life of Rowan County to help the American Cancer Society lead the fight for a world without cancer.
More than 200 visitors were welcomed to the event to celebrate survivors and remember lost loved ones. Ten teams registered over 150 team members and recognized over 40 cancer survivors. After the opening ceremony welcoming participants, the event began with a victory lap by survivors and their caregivers. After dark, Luminaria were placed and lit in honor of lost loved ones and those still battling with cancer before walking a memorial lap.
Funds raised at Relay events help the American Cancer Society provide cancer patients and their families with resources they need, such as free rides to chemotherapy, free places to stay near hospitals, and a live 24/7 helpline for support. Special thanks to faculty members Diana Reeder and Dawn Greenfield who worked alongside Chase Barnes from the American Cancer Society to make this event possible. The Rowan Campus looks forward to hosting next year’s Relay for Life of Rowan County.
