The 37th Annual Rowan County Regional Quilt Show was held on Saturday, March 16, at the Morehead Conference Center.

A large crowd from throughout the region attended as well as from Ohio, West Virginia, Kansas and even Colorado to view the quilts and read the stories of the “Timeless Treasures” that many quilters included with their quilts.

Toni Steer, fabric and pattern designer as well as a teacher for Timeless Treasures Fabrics “Wing and a Prayer” line gave a lecture about how fabric is designed from the concept of the print pattern all the way to the actual production of the fabric to be made in a quilt.

Later in the day she demonstrated how to work with fabric panels to make a quilt.

Other individuals participating and/or doing demonstrations were: Gwen Parker, Quilt Heaven, gave a demonstration of how to make a microwave bowl cover; Debbie Howes, So-Sews Quilt Group, demonstrated how to tack a quilt; and David Litteral, Command Sargent Major, presented a slide show about Comfort Quilts in Iraq. Also the So-Sews Quilt Group presented a quilt to the Rowan County Retired Veterans Group to be raffled off to raise money for their numerous community projects such a the Veteran Wall.

The Woodsheep, a group that formed while attending MSU Traditional Music Center, provided musical entertainment to the crowd awaiting the results of the “Viewers’ Choice” voting.

Machine Quilted Computerized – Deb Gallagher, Rowan County

Baby Quilt – Julia McClurg, Rowan County

Wall Hanging – Ruby Belcher, Rowan County

Miscellaneous/Wearable – Debbie Meadows, Carter County

Youth 18 & Under – Tucker Blevins, Rowan County

Patriotic Quilt – Tina Parsons, Carter County

Antique Quilt – Cindy Crager, Rowan County

The following categories had 1st, 2nd and 3rd place:

Hand Quilted Quilt: 1st – Josephine Cockran, Madison County; 2nd – Barbara Gamble, Morgan County; 3rd – Maudie Nickel, Morgan County

Machine Quilted Quilt: 1st - Arvetta Kay Delasmit, Rowan County (also won last year); 2nd - Alta Price, Fleming County; 3rd – Tie – Anita Frederick, Morgan County and Suzanne Skaggs, Rowan County

The finale of the day was the drawing for the Rowan County Regional Quilt Show “Raffle Quilt.” The winner was Jean Hall from Rowan County.
