The 2019 Edward Thomas Earhart Award for Youth Leadership has been presented to Rowan County Senior High School senior Jordan Lee Whittaker. Formal public presentation of the honor was made Thursday, May 9, at the school’s Senior Awards Program by J. D. Reeder, Past Master and Secretary-Emeritus of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654.
The Earhart Award is given in memory of Edward Earhart, a Morehead native and RCSHS alumnus, who was serving in the United States Navy and was on duty on September 11, 2001, when he died in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon. He was 26 years old.
“Each year, we wish to honor a graduate of Rowan County Senior High School who has exhibited a high level of academic excellence and exemplary service to the school and the community,” Reeder said. “We believe Jordan Whittaker represents those qualities to a remarkable degree, and we wish him well in his college studies.”
