A 30- year- old Rowan County man was indicted for first- degree sodomy and three other sexual charges by a Rowan County Grand Jury Friday in circuit court.

The grand jury reported that John Lee Hedrick committed the sodomy offense when he allegedly engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with an unnamed female minor less than 12 years old.

Hedrick was also indicted for first degree sexual abuse, when he allegedly had sexual contact with an unnamed female minor less than 12.

The grand jury also charged him with promoting a sexual performance by a minor, when he allegedly directed or promoted an unnamed female minor under 16 in a sexual performance of which he was reported to know the character and content, court records stated.

He was also charged with possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor by allegedly having more than 100 digital images depicting an actual sexual performance by a minor, according to the grand jury indictments.

All the charges allegedly took place from August to November, 2005. The sodomy charge could carry 20 years to life in prison if the person is found guilty.

An indictment is only a formal charge and does not establish guilt.

Other indictments include:

• David Weaver, for first degree burglary, when he allegedly entered the home of Patrick and Cheryl Jones and threatened to use a dangerous weapon against Patrick Jones.

He was also indicted for being a persistent felony offender.

The charges carry a 10-20 year prison sentence if found guilty.

• Lee Stamper Jr., for six counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, when he allegedly had a 12 pump shotgun, an 870 pump shotgun, a "Plainsman" model 865, a .44 Magnum, a .22 CNL rifle and a .22 caliber rifle, all on June 26.

The charge carries a 5-10 year penalty.

• Larry Braxton Collins, for 22 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, when he allegedly used Donald Flatt's credit card at various stores for merchandise totaling more than $700 in March.

• Travis Roark, for seven counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, when he allegedly used credit cards belonging to Tasha Roark, Davin Barnett, Stephanie Bates, Joseph Snow, Graham Reinke, Ashley Hayes and Tyler Moran totaling more than $5,000 in September and October 2005.

• Anthony S. Clevenger, for theft by unlawful taking, when he allegedly took a purse with credit cards, checks and other items belonging to Suzy Easterling, valued in excess of $300 on May 9.

• Heather L. Marcum, for theft by unlawful taking, when she allegedly took furnishings from a mobile home she was renting from Theresa Smith or Lena Reynolds on June 11 or 12, which valued more than $300.

• Carl Ray Greenhill Jr., for fleeing police, when he allegedly disobeyed a direction from police to stop his vehicle and caused the risk of serious injury while driving under the influence on April 28.

He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

• Scottie Thornsberry, for first-degree possession of a controlled substance, when he allegedly had cocaine on March 1.

• Jason J. Waddell, for possession of a controlled substance, when he allegedly had cocaine on March 1.

He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia on the same day.

• Donnie Scott Riddle Jr., for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, fourth offense within five years on June 17.

He was also indicted for driving on suspended license.

• Anthony Barnette Jr., for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, fourth or more offense within five years on June 2.

He was also indicted for possession of drug paraphernalia.

•John B. Carter, for operating a motor vehicle while license revoked for driving under the influence and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when operating the vehicle on April 24.

He was also charged with being a persistent felony offender.
