The Morehead State University Presidential Search and Screening Advisory Committee has narrowed the pool of candidates for the position to five active candidates.

The committee met on Wednesday to discuss conversations with directed references for the 10 candidates who were under consideration for the position.

The five candidates will be invited for an interview at an off campus site on Jan. 19 and 20.

“I am very pleased with the five candidates we have chosen, and am enthusiastic about the quality of the five we have chosen to interview and reference further,” says Wayne Martin, chair of the Presidential Search committee.

Following interviews, the committee will present two to three names to the MSU Board of Regents.

Those candidates will come to campus for a community-based forum in March for questions from members of the campus and Morehead community, before being interviewed by the Board of Regents.

Martin says the goal is to name a new president by March 31.

The new president will assume office July 1, 2017.

Present at Wednesday's meeting were Wayne Martin, chair; Kathy Walker, vice chair; Paul Goodpaster, Board of Regents chair; Dr. Shannon Harr; Adam Abbott; Eric Howard; Dr. Michelle Kunz; Buck Hinkle; Dr. Royal Berglee; Karen Chaney, and William “Bill” Funk.

Funk, president of the academic consulting firm R. William Funk and Associates, was hired to aid the committee in the screening process.
