The time is nearly here for the opening of the city’s “new to them” indoor recreation center.

Effective July 8, the Laughlin Health Building on the campus of Morehead State University will be open and available to all at no cost.

“The addition of the Laughlin Health Building will give our community a long awaited opportunity for citizens of all ages to explore endless recreation possibilities including, but not limited to, basketball/volleyball/all-purpose courts, racquetball courts, birthday party rental rooms, ping pong, corn hole, walking space, and indoor batting cages,” said Matt Hamilton, director of Parks and Recreation.

Hamilton said they are still deciding the operating hours of the facility, but will most likely be somewhere around 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekends.

Between now and the opening, the parks and recreation department will be transitioning all of their offices to Laughlin. The current office will temporarily remain open during current office hours through the transition.

“This will be a jointly supported project between the City of Morehead and the Rowan County Fiscal Court to give back to a much deserving community,” Hamilton said. “We are looking forward to this new venture and can’t wait to see you all there.”

For all scheduling and reservations you will still be able to use the current number of 784-8686.
