Cars, fried bologna, live music and a Miss Hoodlum Contest await driving enthusiasts in Morehead this weekend.

Hosted by the Carter County Cruisers C.C., the Hoodlums in the Holler car show and extravaganza will feature live music, model car contest, vendors, concessions and the Miss Hoodlum Contest.

The event is Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Haldeman Community Center, 4399 Open Fork Road.

Entry fee is $10 and registration is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The first 100 entries will receive an event shirt with custom artwork and a goody bag.

The show has more than doubled its entries since the Hoodlums in the Holler event started eight years ago. However, the Cruisers was organized in 1982.

The car shows are meant to spread fellowship to the community and other “car people,” said John Bailey, Carter County Cruisers president.

They also are meant to bring people to the area who normally wouldn’t come to Haldeman and Rowan County, and to help the Haldeman Community Center raise money for its programs.

The day’s itinerary includes a $5 all-you-can-eat country breakfast with biscuits and gravy, sausage, fried bologna, potatoes and eggs starting at 7 a.m., vendors and concessions from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sales of concessions benefit the Haldeman Community Center, Open Fork Road.

Vendors include signs, garage art, classic car insurance, vintage style pinup clothing, pinstriping, auto upholstery and photography.

Miss Hoodlum contest sign ups begin at 10 a.m. and a model car contest open to all ages with no entry fee is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lunch (including hot dogs and sauce, pulled pork sandwiches and nachos) and games start at 11 a.m. followed by the Miss Hoodlum Contest and music by DJs Cousin Chris and the G-man at 1 p.m.

Laid Back Country Picker will perform live music for two 45-minute sets beginning at 2 p.m.

The day concludes with an awards presentation at 4 p.m. Among the awards are “The 35” Awards, King of Clubs, Road Weary, Eye Poppin’ Paint, Chopped to Perfection, THE ONE (best of show) and more.

Awards are custom made by car club members and friends.

Sponsors include Owens Insurance, Nationwide & Hagerty, Craig’s Auto Sales, MKM Soap, Aaron’s Best One Tire, Bypass Pawn, Quality Appliance, Don Senor Mexican Restaurant, Jerry Bowen, DB Infosys, Billy Tackett Art, John’s Kustom Trophy, Cornfield Customs and Ole Seasons Shoppe.

The group has five events throughout the year: Olive Hill cruise in, Grayson Memorial Day show, spring and fall car shows in Haldeman, and a car show at the Judy Drive In in Mt. Sterling.
