Morehead State University’s Department of Music, Theatre and Dance will present the musical holiday event “A Light unto the Mountains,” a new work celebrating the Appalachian region and the diversity of its citizens.
The program takes place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5 and 6, in the ballroom of the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC).
Admission is $5 for the general public and free for students of all ages.
The program will also be performed at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Hehman Hall at Christ The King Cathedral in Lexington.
The program will feature both traditional and classical music, historical tidbits and written works reflecting the influence of the different immigrants who settled in the Appalachian region. The audience will get to sing along with seasonal selections.
“Our rich and varied heritage, created by immigrants from all over the world, weaves a brightly colored tapestry, or perhaps more appropriately in this part of the country, a patchwork quilt. Each square tells a story,” said Dr. Roma Prindle, professor of music at MSU. “The holiday season is the time of year to celebrate our heritage – all of it. Let us revel in our diversity by promising to honor and hold each other in the light throughout the coming year.”
