MOREHEAD | Certified Public Accountant Donna Hendrix cut the ribbon on her new office Friday afternoon.

Organized by the Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held amidst raindrops as Hendrix celebrated her newly constructed office space.

The office, located at 550 W. First Street in Morehead, is an elevated structure.

Hendrix said the previous facility to sit on the property flooded three times in eight years. She also pointed out that in times when the road flooded, trucks would often blast their way through the water to create waves - causing additional damage.

"I guess they found it amusing," she said. "But I certainly did not."

Raising her office helps prevent this and other flood-related damage in the future.

The business was temporarily moved to Pinecrest while the new facility was under construction, which took about 10 months. The old facility was demolished late last year.

"We're excited to not have to worry about flooding," Hendrix added.

She has four other employees: German Sparks, Jimmy Spencer, Carla Blevins and Michala Caudill. Together, they specialize in tax preparation, government audits, compilations, reviews, financial statements and payroll services.

Hendrix has been in the business for 25 years, 15 of which she has operated as her own business.

The new building also features a 1,000 sq. ft. space available for rent and is fully constructed, ready to move into.

The office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It can be reached at (606) 784-4451.

Hendrix also has an office in Flemingsburg.
