MOREHEAD – The 29th annual Community Christmas dinner will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Carl Perkin Community Center from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Michele Jessee, Becky Kissick, Maryann Stevens, Tracy Hamilton and Tony Cooper are just some of the persons involved in planning and setting up this year’s feast.

The fire department and other city personnel help prepare the community center for the annual meal. Walmart and local churches prepare desserts and Life Care Center of Morehead prepares and bakes rolls.

“It’s definitely a joint effort,” Jessee said.

Three awards will be given for performance of service and commitment to the community.

Turkey, ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, dressing and gravy are all the culmination of about four days’ worth of cooking, Jessee said.

Members of the Morehead-Rowan County Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor drinks.

“We start on Monday and the fire department helps us get all the food together,” she added.

Tracy Williams, former executive director of the chamber, also played a large role in previous dinners. However, she has recently taken a job at Edward Jones and was unable to help this year.

“We will miss her,” Jessee said.

This event helps kick off the full weekend of events, including a parade on Friday and a full list of activities on Saturday during Hometown Holiday.
