Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt and Kentucky State Police Det. Toby Gardner late Thursday recovered the body of a premature infant off Igo Road in Rowan County.
Northcutt transported the remains to Frankfort for an autopsy at the state medical examiner’s office.
Acting on a tip, Northcutt and Gardner obtained a search warrant for property owned by a couple recently charged with neglecting their nine children.
The infant’s body was found in a container in a shallow grave in a wooded area near the home of Johnathan Prater, 34, and Edith Strange, 35.
Both are being held in the Rowan County Detention Center on charges of first degree wanton endangerment.
Thursday’s incident remains under investigation by Northcutt and Gardner.
