Senior shortstop Kayla Ashbrook has been named the Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week for the week of March 4-10.
The Canton, Ohio, native led the Eagles to a 5-0 record last week at Charlotte and the Hampton Inn Camel Stampede Tournament. She hit .500 (8-for-16) with nine RBI, four runs, a double and a home run.
In the Eagles’ 9-1 (5) victory over Charlotte, she led MSU and went 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBI. The total tied a career-high for her. In the victory over Drexel, she led the team with three hits, and added an RBI. Her home run was part of a 2-for-2 performance against Norfolk State. She had a .750 slugging percentage, a .556 on-base percentage and was 3-for-3 on stolen bases.
Ashbrook has seen action in all 12 games for MSU, including 11 as a starter, and is leading the team in batting average (.432), hits (16), RBI (13) and stolen bases (6). She is also tied for first on the team in doubles (3) and home runs (2).
Ashbrook and the Eagles will host a doubleheader against Western Illinois on Tuesday for their first home contest. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. and live stats will be available at MSUEagles.com.
