Lorene Stamper Brown
1936-2009


MOREHEAD – Lorene Stamper Brown, 73, of U. S. 60 West, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009 at her home.

She was born on May 20, 1936 in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Elsberry and Minnie Lou Porter Stamper.

Mrs. Brown was a private housekeeper. She was of the Church of God Faith and enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, playing Pick 3 and arts and crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merlen Brown, who passed away in 1993, one son, Russell Jay Brown, who passed away on July 12, 2001 and two brothers, Jr. Stamper and Butch Stamper.

Survivors include two sons, David Brown and his wife, Tammy, who was her caregiver and friend, of Farmers and Robert Brown of Clearfield, one daughter, Kathy Cox and her husband, Don of Olive Hill, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, one expected great-granddaughter in December, her beloved dog, Daisy and several, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 15, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Gayle Price officiating. Burial was in the Cox Cemetery in Elliott County.

Pallbearers were Donald Ray Porter, Trey Fultz, Eli Fultz, Houston Davenport, Bradley Sparks and Timmy Harris and honorary pallbearers were Russell Brown II, Mike Hilterbrand and Darrell Wages.

Curt Earl Caudill
1944-2009


MOREHEAD – Curt Earl Caudill, age 65, of Big Woods Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009, after complications with pancreatic cancer at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

He was born April 11, 1944, in Rowan County, Kentucky, to the late Davis Franklin and Leota Thornbury Caudill.

Curt is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lillian Simms Caudill; one son, Wesley Caudill of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Jennifer Jourdan and husband Jesse of Southgate, Michigan; and two granddaughters, Stephanie and Danielle Jourdan.

He is also survived by three sisters, Ada Cooper of Hillsboro, Kentucky, Ruby Johnson of Wellston, Ohio, and Regina Stevens of Morehead, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman and William Caudill, and one sister, Frances Summers.

Mr. Caudill was retired from the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, after 31 years of service, and was a member of the Bluebank Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Fannin and Rev. Butch Kelsey officiating. Burial will follow in the Cranston Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Caudill, Jeff Caudill, Doc Caudill, Nick Caudill, Mark Caudill, and June Caudill.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Clara O. Eldridge Goodman
1935-2009


MOREHEAD – Clara O. Eldridge Goodman, 73, of Crix Ridge Road, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia after an illness of several weeks.

She was born on December 27, 1935 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Preston and Lillie Mae Pence Eldridge.

Mrs. Goodman was retired from the Rowan County Public Library where she served as the bookmobile librarian for many years. She was also a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She was of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.

Mrs. Goodman was the widow of Homer Goodman who passed away on October 20, 2009.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Fraley, Fredia Crumb, Verna Riddle and Lula Kiser and one brother, Charles Eldridge.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Goodman Moore and her husband, William of Ashland, one brother, Roscoe Eldridge of Morehead and three sisters, Mary Brown of Greenup, Carma Eldridge of Morehead and Shirley Blevins of Glasgow, Kentucky and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

An Old Regular Baptist Church funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Elder Gary Adkins and Elder Curt Seagraves officiating. Burial will follow in the Crix Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Stephens, Michael Brown, David Brown, Tommy Riddle, Paul Goodman and Willie Goodman.

A special Old Regular Baptist Church service was held at 6:30 P.M. Monday with Elder Paul Boggs and Elder Gary Blevins officiating.

Edna Marie Lewis
1932-2009


Edna Marie Lewis, 77, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009, at her home in Yorktown, IN. She was born August 21, 1932, in Morehead, Kentucky, the daughter of Ottis L. and Vada (Moore) DeHart. She grew up in Kentucky and moved to the Muncie area in the early 1950’s.

She and her husband owned and operated Lewis’ Woodcrafts, and she was at one time employed at Muncie Novelty. Edna was well loved for her incredible connection to children and animals and all living things especially her flower gardens. She cared for and touched deeply the lives of many friends and family.

Surviving are her son, Elden Lewis, (wife, Mary), Greenfield, IN; her daughter, Debra Yee, (husband, Leo), Bargersville, IN; two grandchildren, Amy Lewis and Kyle Lewis, both of Indianapolis, IN; three brothers, James “Arley” DeHart, (wife, Linda), Duarte, California, Ival DeHart, (wife, JoAnn), Hurst, Texas, and Larry DeHart, (wife, Delores), Muncie, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph K. Lewis, who died in 2001; her daughter, McCleda Lewis-Munoz, who died in 2005; her grandson, Todd Lewis, who died in 2006; two brothers, Cletis and Ray DeHart; and two sisters, May DeHart and Reba (DeHart) Kidd.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Parson Mortuary, 801 W. Adams St., Muncie, IN, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday and an hour prior to the services on Monday at the mortuary.

Vernon Delano Pettit
1934-2009


HILLSBORO – Vernon D. Pettit of Johnson School Road in Grange City, Kentucky, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 14, 2009, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

He was born on January 9, 1934, in Fleming County, Kentucky, to the late James Tobe and Amanda Helen Bradshaw Pettit.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ersie Burton Pettit; one son, L. D. (Barb) Pettit of Grange City, KY; and two daughters, Bernetta (Larry) Catching, of London, KY and Rhonda (Randy) Hawkins of Grange City, KY; four grandchildren, Brad (Mary Jane) Pettit, Kelly Pettit, Adam (Michele) Hawkins, Amy Hawkins; and one great-granddaughter, Laura Pettit.

He is also survived by one brother, Emerson Pettit, of Jamestown, OH; two sisters, Lovell Caudill of Grange City, KY and Nellie Taylor of Flemingsburg, KY. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert Pettit, Leon Pettit, and Bob Pettit, and one sister, Madge Wakely.

He was a retired Fleming County school bus driver, a lifelong farmer, and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of the Johnson First Church of God.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009, at the Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009, in the chapel of Hutton Funeral Home with Bro. Vernon Gross and Bro. Billie Wagoner officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Gross, Bob Flora, Scotty Dailey, Monty Jent, Jamie Hawkins, Bill Adams, Ricky Lewis, Paul Taylor, Rick Maze, Gerald Dyer, Dennie Adams, Glen Burriss, and Danny Jent.

Honorary pallbearers will be Orville Anderson, Emery Caudill, Ford Hinton, Jimmy Gooding and Mike Vise.

Paul J. Reynolds
1921-2009


MOREHEAD – Paul J. Reynolds, age 88, of Hunter Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 13, 2009, at Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

He was born August 21, 1921, in Wrigley, Morgan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Anna Caudill Reynolds Clay and James S. Reynolds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Mabel Carr Reynolds, who died on February 24, 2004, and a daughter, Sara Josephine Reynolds on September 13, 1958. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Edward Reynolds.

Survivors include two sons – Roy W. Reynolds and his wife Jean Lamer of Atlanta, Georgia, and Joseph Otto Reynolds of Corvallis, Oregon; one daughter – Anne R. Buckner and her husband Glen Buckner of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law – Dianna Pettit Reynolds of Morehead, Kentucky; four grandchildren – Tonya Ricks (David), Tiffany Sholar (Alan), Kaitlyn Reynolds, and Makayla Reynolds; four great-grandchildren – Taylor Ricks, Braden Ricks, Logan Clark, and Alana Sholar; and four stepgreat-grandchildren – Bethany Sholar, Trent Sholar, Eli Sholar, and Caitlin Sholar.

Also surviving are two brothers – James Richard Reynolds and William Earl Clay, and one sister – Mary Margaret (Peggie) Reynolds, all of Morehead, Kentucky, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paul J. was a lifelong member and honorary elder of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he and Mabel were baptized together in 1937. He was a graduate of Morehead High School and Morehead State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. During World War II Paul served as 1st Lt., 95th Bomb Group, 412th Squadron, 8thAir Force. Paul completed 35 missions over Germany as Bombardier/Navigator, and was honored for excellence in service with Air Medals, five Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Paul’s professional life was centered on the lumber business, after working on the KY State Highway Patrol and with Carr-Lancaster Block Company. For his father-in-law, Otto Carr, Paul J. managed Carr Lumber Company from 1950 to 1975. Prior to an early retirement, he also became a co-manager of Homer Gregory and Company, a logging and saw mill business. Paul’s community service involvements included the Morehead City Council, Lions Club, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

During his retirement years he enjoyed gardening, pocket billards with all his friends, and finding collectibles (sadirons, trivets and coins).

A Celebration of Life was conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Morehead with the Rev. Molly Smothers officiating.

Pallbearers will be Walter Dennis Carr, Terry Reynolds, Lewis Croom, Jim Tom Caudill, Joe Macke, Larry Fannin, David Perkins, and Ronnie Caudill.

Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and friends.

Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Oleda May Crase Sallie
1949-2009


CAMPTON – Oleda May Crase Sallie, age 60, of Cook Branch Road, Campton, Kentucky, widow of Forest Sallie, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

She was born July 11, 1949, in Morgan County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Seldon and Elizabeth Walters Crase. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Barker, and a brother, Kendall Crase.

She is survived by three sons, Tommy Sallie of Lee City, Kentucky, Doug (Kim) Sallie of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Scottie (Shelly) Sallie of Jackson, Kentucky; one daughter, Charolette (Trevis) Collins of Clay City, Kentucky; three brothers, Randall Crase of Goshen, Ohio, Rocky Crase of Lee City, Kentucky, and Glen Crase of West Liberty, Kentucky; two sisters, Barbara Allen of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Betty Dunn of Lee City, Kentucky, and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009, at Brushy Fork Baptist Church, Caney, Kentucky. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at the church with Randall Crase, Hobert Dunn, and Johnny Ritchie officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dunn Cemetery in Lee City, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Sam Dunn, Joseph Dunn, David Dunn, Manuel Whitley, Alvin Whitley, Robert Sallie, Eugene Sallie, Gerald Sallie, Chris Sallie, Shane Crase, David Oney, and Tony Oney.

Carl Eugene Stacy
1930-2009


MOREHEAD – Carl Eugene Stacy, age 79, of Barn Branch Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009, at his residence.

He was born October 11, 1930, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Ottis and Cora Lee Plank Stacy. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ora Stacy.

His wife, Wanda Mae Plank Stacy, preceded him in death on November 26, 2007.

Carl is survived by two sons, Woody Stacy and wife Becky of Morehead, Kentucky, and Rick Plank of Wartburg, Tennessee; three brothers, Willie Stacy, Jimmie Stacy, and Otis Stacy, all of Morehead, Kentucky; two sisters, Darlene McDowell of Muncie, Indiana and Bonnie Estep of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was a farmer and a member of the Adams-Plank Enterprise Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Carlos Bowman and Rev. Mike Nickell officiating. Burial will follow in Adams-Plank Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rocky Stacy, Clifford Stacy, Dale Estep, Bobby Shay, Jimmy Dean Stacy, Mike McDowell, Derek Stafford, and Dalton Stacy.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
