Edna Black 1923-2007
Edna (Tiny) Inez Turner Black, age 84, of Tippett Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born March 22, 1923, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Russell H. and Iva Hogge Turner. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Barten and Wilma Thompson, and one brother, James Turner.
Her husband, William (Bill) Black, whom she married August 23, 1952, passed away August 10, 2002; a son, George Russell Nickell, in 1983; and a grandson, David William Nickell, in 1997.
Mrs. Black is survived by two sons, Jim and Donna Nickell of Morehead, Kentucky, and Bill and Tammy Black of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and two daughters, Robin Black of Morehead, Kentucky, and Janet and Buster Alderman of Morehead, Kentucky.
Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Leslie Galema and husband Adam, Rebekah Woodward and husband Mike, Jared Black, Kerry Murphy and husband Shannon, Kimberly Alderman, Abby Alderman, Amanda Alderman, Russell David Nickell, Gabe Nickell and wife Lena, and Amy Scott; and eight great-grandchildren, Cassity and Jared Galema, Audrey Woodward, Morgan and Carmen Nickell, and Landon, Kennedy, and Austin Scott.
Mrs. Black was a homemaker and a 52-year member of the Morehead First Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial followed in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Woodward, Adam Galema, Shannon Murphy, Brian Scott, Chase Armstrong, and Michael Alderman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the First Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1003, Morehead, KY 40351.
Ronald Boyd 1932-2007
Ronald Boyd, age 75, of Lower Licking Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed from this life Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at his home. He was born January 12, 1932, in Floyd County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Ezra and Ida Crisp Boyd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christy Lynn Boyd; two brothers, Donald Boyd and Lencil Boyd; one sister, Gail Browning; and one granddaughter, Katie Lawson.
Mr. Boyd is survived by the mother of his children, Ida Sparks Boyd, whom he married June 13, 1959; two sons, Stephen Ray Boyd of Orlando, Florida, and Jeffrey Allen Boyd of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; five daughters, Veronica Ann Hall and husband Lonnie Hall of Richmond, Kentucky, Clella Kay Boyd of Corvallis, Oregon, and Moneisa Diane Lawson, Rhonda Joy Ingold, and Tammy Parker and husband Jeff Parker, all of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandsons, Joshua Shelby Lawson and wife Emily of Sandy Hook, Stanley Richard Ingold of Morehead, Samuel Boyd Lawson, currently serving in the Air Force stationed in South Korea, Joel Benjamin Lawson and Tanner Nathaniel Boyd; one very special granddaughter, Chloe Isabella Parker, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all residing out of town.
Ron Boyd was an electrician by trade. He worked at Morehead State University and was self-employed for many years in the Morehead and Lexington areas. His hobbies included woodworking and fishing. He read and studied the Bible daily. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and his constant companion, his collie, Valentine; they were his life. He loved to worship the Lord at the Church of Christ in Owingsville, Kentucky.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Brother Bill Teegarden officiating. Burial followed in Slaty Point Cemetery on Lower Licking Road in Morehead. Pallbearers will be Stan Ingold, Joshua Lawson, Tanner Boyd, Joel Lawson, Richard Ingold, and Shelby Lawson, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Boyd, Jeff Boyd, Samuel Lawson, Wade Hall, Lonnie Hall, Shelby Lawson, Sr., and Sam Cross.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Jerry Lane Kilgore 1960-2007
OLIVE HILL – Jerry Lane Kilgore, 47, of Fleming Fork Road in Olive Hill, Kentucky passed away Monday, September 24, 2007 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born on January 7, 1960 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of Charles Leo Kilgore and Pearl Myrtle Glover Kilgore of Olive Hill.
Jerry was a former mechanic for Garry’s Service Center and a logger. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers and caring for his cattle.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Annetia Sue Dailey Kilgore of Olive Hill, two sons, Jeremy Scott Kilgore and his wife, Tiffany and Aaron Jacob Kilgore all of Olive Hill, his maternal grandmother, Latonia Glover of Morehead, three sisters, Connie Fultz and Mae Hall both of Morehead and Tammy Kilgore of Berea and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, September 27, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Glover and Steve Dailey officiating. Burial was in the Kilgore Cemetery in Carter County.
Pallbearers were Robert Fultz, Tim Glover, Virgil Stamper, Otha Kilgore, Randy Stevens, Danny Glover, Mike Hall and Josh Hall, and honorary pallbearer was Forest Rivers.

Beulah Pennington 1909-2007
Beulah Alfrey Pennington, 98, passed away peacefully at her residence in Morehead on Wednesday, September 26, 2007.
She was born June 28, 1909, in Morehead, a daughter of the late Harvey N. Alfrey and Nellie McKenzie Alfrey.
Beulah was predeceased by her husband, Hubert W. Pennington, in 1980; and her sisters, Ava Caskey and Fannie Foreman; and her brothers, Dewey Alfrey and Vernon Alfrey.
She is survived by one son—Harvey T. Pennington, and his wife, Linda, of Morehead; one granddaughter—Shelley Brooke Pennington, who presently resides in Los Angeles, California; three nieces—Billie Jean Clayton of Morehead; Joan Becker of Escondido, California; and Janet Russell of Opelika, Alabama; one nephew—George Dewey Alfrey, Jr., of Morehead; and several great nieces and nephews.
Beulah (or “Bootie” as she was affectionately known to family members and close friends) was a graduate of Morehead High School and later attended a beautician’s academy in Mansfield, Ohio, from which she graduated in 1934. She practiced as a beautician for many years and did not fully retire from that profession until she was in her 80’s. From the early 1960’s until a short time before her death, Beulah also owned and managed some residential rental units in the city of Morehead. She was a member of the Morehead First Church of God.
Beulah’s family also gratefully recognizes and extends their appreciation to all the caretakers who devotedly attended to Beulah’s needs during her last years and months, with a special acknowledgement of Gladys Trent of Morehead, her close and dear friend of nearly thirty years.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jack Ellis and Dr. J. D. Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in Caudill Cemetery on West Main Street, Morehead.
Visitation is after 3 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Hubert Trent 1921-2007
Hubert Ernest Trent, age 85, of Elliottville, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2007, in LaGrange, Kentucky.
He was born December 30 1921, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Theodore Trent and Clara Conn Trent. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janice; his brother Edward; and his sons, Ernie and Raymond.
He is survived by his sister, Geneva Williams; his son, Jim; his daughters, Patti Jo Mallock, Judy Brockman and Sue Anne Kimble; his stepsons, Clarke, Mike, Jim and Tim Thomas; his stepdaughter, Merry Kay Goodan; his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Hubert was a retired electrician who enjoyed gardening and visiting with friends, neighbors and family.
He was a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant. While serving in World War II, he and his B-17 crew completed 21 bombing missions in the European theatre of operations. On his last mission in 1943, his aircraft crash-landed in France. He evaded capture and with the help of the French Resistance managed to return to England in 1944. He was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that you hug a child, care for a pet and help your fellow man however you can, just as he did during his life. You may also make a donation to a Shriner’s hospital.
A family memorial service will be held.

Elva Waddell 1916-2007
Elva Williams Waddell, age 91, of Boardwalk Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007, at Elliott Nursing and Rehab Center in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
She was born March 17, 1916, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Talmadge Williams and Navada Gilliam Williams. In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth, Emerson, and Randy and her sisters, Hermel, Plura, and Lorain. Her husband, Charles Waddell, passed away in 1980, and four sons, Norwood Lloyd, Danny, Johnnie, and Elwayne Waddell also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one son, Troy Waddell and Barb, of Morehead, Kentucky, and one daughter, Arvetta W. Grubb and Les of Morehead, Kentucky; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a Christian and attended Sharkey Free Will Baptist Church. She retired from Cowden Manufacturing Company in Morehead. She enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, and music.
Funeral service will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnette Family Cemetery on Cold Springs Road. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
