Stephen Douglas Caudill
1923-2007

OHIO - Stephen Douglas Caudill, 84, of Mansfield, died September 20, 2007 at his home after a long illness. Born February 10, 1923 in Morehead, Kentucky, he was the son of James W. and Maggie (Brown) Caudill. He retired in 1985 from Copperweld. Mr. Caudill was an active member of Journey Life Center, where he received a Life Time Achievement Award and was the church bus driver. Mr. Caudill was also a self employed carpenter and resident carpenter of the church. He built barns all through Kentucky and was also a foster parent.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Morris Perkins) Caudill; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Donna, Thomas and Cynthia, and Gary and Paulina Caudill, all of Mansfield; stepdaughter and caregiver, Missy Ramsey of Mansfield; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; three sisters, Ruby Terrell, Betty Gibson, and Ida Belle Dillon, all of Morehead, Kentucky; and special friend, Noah Prince. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Maxine (Perkins) Caudill; daughter, Pauline Caudill; foster son, Carl Blakeman; sister, Jewell Bolenbaugh of Aberdeen, Ohio in May of 2007; and several infant brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Journey Life Center conducted by Dr. Bruce Philippi and Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett. Burial followed in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Online guest registry at www.wappner.com.

Donald Keeton
1945-2007

MOREHEAD - Donald Eugene Keeton, age 62, of Templeman Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 21, 2007, at his residence.

He was born July 7, 1945, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Allen Richard and Florence Mae Kidd Keeton. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Ray Keeton, in December 1944.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Lou Thornsberry Keeton; one son, the Rev. David Allen Keeton of Morehead, Kentucky; three daughters, Mary Jane Martin of Cincinnati, Ohio, Angela Botts Cundiff of Winchester, Kentucky, Heather Gibson of Morehead, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, Tyler Blake Keeton, Kellie Anne Martin, Tristan Eugene Bruce Cundiff, and Trevor Layne Gibson.

Additional survivors include three brothers, Larry Keeton of Brinegar, Kentucky, Ronald Keeton of Manitou Beach, Michigan, and David Keeton of Salt Lick, Kentucky; and six sisters, Wanda Copher of Clearfield, Kentucky, Carolyn Jones of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Linda Moore of Springtown, Texas, Eula Dillon of Clearfield, Kentucky, Brenda Lewis of Morehead, Kentucky, and Karen Jane Winkleman of Morehead, Kentucky.

He was a heavy equipment operator with Dave Braughler Construction Company and Judy Construction. Donald enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, and farming. He played with the Soldiers for Christ gospel band and was a member of the New Horizon Fellowship Church.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Ingles and Rev. Clark Thomas officiating. Burial was in the Hamilton Cemetery on Christy Creek.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Keeton, Brian Keeton, Jim Cundiff, Matthew Lipps, Chris Lewis, Rodney Shepherd, David Keeton, Jr., Travis Gibson, and Phillip Keeton.

Visitation was after 5 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Lucille Stevens
1912-2007

MOREHEAD – Lucille Scott Stevens, 94, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 in the Life Care Center.

She was born on October 30, 1912 in Farmers, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Thomas Hargis Scott and Alta Mae Snelling Scott.

Lucille retired from Morehead State University and was very active in the community and enjoyed helping others. She volunteered many hours in the school system and at St. Claire Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Morehead First Church of God, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, White Shrine of Jerusalem, a past Noble Grand, Past President of the Democrat Club of Rowan County, Rowan County Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Stevens who passed away in 1983, one brother, Carl Scott, three sisters, Vera Anderson, Katherine Weigel and Ima Jean Scott and a grandson, Richie Sturgill who passed away in 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Don B. Stevens of Morehead, Larry A Stevens of Farmers and Roger L. Stevens of Franklin, Ohio, one daughter, Diana Stevens of Morehead, eight grandchildren, Lee M. Stevens, Mark S. Stevens, Paul B. Stevens, Chad L. Stevens, Lisa Stevens, Kimberly Barker, Jennifer Burwick and Natalie Stevens, five great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Carey Hill Cemetery at Farmers.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren.

Thomas Yancy
1939-2007

CLEARFIELD - Thomas L. Yancy, 68, of Scott Court, Clearfield, Kentucky, retired Associate Professor of Communications at Morehead State University, died Friday, September 21, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Born May 29, 1939, in Tyler, Texas, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Mildred Dillard Yancy.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Judith O’Dell Yancy; one brother, Roy David Yancy of Florence, Alabama; one sister, Bettie Hedrick of Spring, Texas; three nephews, Jason Hedrick of San Marcos, Texas, Jeremy Hedrick of Spring, Texas, and Ronnie Yancy of Franklin, Kentucky; and one niece, Donna Schroeder of Sinton, Texas.

Mr. Yancy came to MSU in 1977 after working as a television producer at public stations at the University of West Florida, Ohio State University, State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport and the University of Texas. He won a regional “Emmy” from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and was honored by Morehead State in 2002 with the naming of the Thom Yancy Television Seminar Room at Breckinridge Hall. He retired from the University in 2001 with 24 years of service.

He held a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas where he held a lifetime membership in the “TexasExes” alumni organization and also held a master’s degree from MSU. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of KET (Kentucky Educational Television), Broadcast Education Association, American Film Institute and Alpha Epsilon Rho, national broadcast honor society. He was the recipient of a fellowship from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War Era having served in counter intelligence in Germany.

He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, where he served as a licensed lay reader and chalice bearer.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 24, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Suit officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers were Roy Yancy, Kenneth Hedrick, Jason Hedrick, Jeremy Hedrick, Don Adams, Dr. Travis Lockhart, John Osborne, Jim Weathers, and Keith Kappes. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. C. Nelson Grote, Dr. Jack Wilson, Dr. Richard Dandeneau, Frank Hubbard, Tim Ashmore, Ronnie Yancy, Kirby Kappes, Kenley Kappes, Kody Kappes, and Kory Kappes.

Visitation was Sunday, September 23, 2007, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
