Carl Alley (C. A.) Cassity 1925-2009
SALT LICK – Carl Alley (C. A.) Cassity, age 84, of Zilpo, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born July 3, 1925, in Farmers, Kentucky, son of the late Joseph Cassity, Sr., and Flora Alley Cassity. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Jr. Cassity and Hobert Lewis Cassity.
C. A. is survived by his loving wife, Joan Spence Cassity, whom he married October 14, 1967; and his three daughters whom he adored: Carmen Cassity of Clearfield, Kentucky, Kari Cassity of Morehead, Kentucky, and Connie Cassity of Salt Lick, Kentucky.
He graduated from Breckinridge Training School and received a degree in business administration from Morehead State University.
He served his country as a U.S. Army Corporal during World War II and retired as General Superintendent of Midwestern Gas Transmission Company in Vincennes, Indiana, after 38 years of service.
He and Joan moved back to the family farm at Zilpo following his retirement, where C. A., once again, enjoyed being outdoors whether clearing brush or taking walks with his faithful dog, Drooper.
He also loved his granddogs, golfing, fishing and hunting moose.
C. A.’s sense of humor and zest for life and for his family sustained him until the very end. He was a devoted and compassionate husband and father.
He was a member and former Elder of Farmers Christian Church. C. A. will be sadly missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2009, at Farmers Christian Church with Brother Bill Teegarden and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Carey Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers will be Bob Spence, Jake Janzen, Roy Dale Byrd, Jason Caudill, Earl Heidtman, Rick Stalder, and Danny Brotherton.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Farmers Christian Church, 100 KY 801 South, Morehead, KY 40351.

William (Bill) Fultz 1925-2009
MOREHEAD – William (Bill) Fultz, age 84, of U.S. 60 East, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at his residence.
He was born April 19, 1925, in Rowan County, Kentucky, son of the late Charlie and Callie Bailey Fultz.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Lyons Fultz, whom he married June 27, 1951; two sons and their wives, Paul and Linda Fultz of Morehead, Kentucky, and Donnie and Beth Fultz of Louisville, Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Whitney Fultz, Jeff Fultz, and Michael Fultz.
Also surviving are four sisters, Inita Sparkman, Betty Jo Davis, and Phyllis Utterback, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Jeanette Madden of Carter County, Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews.
Bill retired from Cowden Manufacturing Company after 30 years of service. Fondly known as the “Lawnmower Man,” he enjoyed tinkering with all types of equipment, gardening, and antiques. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a Christian for over 40 years, and a member of Johnson First Church of God. Bill was a friend to all in need and a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered by all.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Pennington and Rev. Ben Furman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mabry Cemetery on Knipp Road.
Active Pallbearers: Bill Buck, Keith Buck, Bobby Patrick, Steve Madden, Doug Morgan, Dale Davis, Shane Phelps, and Dusty Phelps.
Honorary Pallbearers: Roger Fultz, Mickey Madden, Johnny Hatfield, Dwight Clark, Jimmy Hargett, Chalmer Utterback, and William Utterback.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

William Curtis (Curt) Pennington 1919-2008
MOREHEAD - William Curtis (Curt) Pennington, age 90, of Christy Creek Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at his residence.
He was born July 6, 1919, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Braxton Jason and Mary Jane Forest Pennington. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ferne James Pennington, whom he married October 26, 1940; one son, Gary C. Pennington of Chicago, Illinois; one daughter, Sharon Lewis of Morehead, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Nikki Janise Mabry, Michael Dann, and Chance Pennington; and four great grandchildren, Christian Mabry, Joshua Bradley, Cheyanne Dann, and Shay Dann.
Also surviving are two sisters, Faye Burton of Dayton, Ohio, and Mozelle Kidd of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews.
Curt served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired as a heavy equipment operator from General Refractories Company in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He was a member of Elliottville Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Clyde Wayne Raines 1944-2009
MOREHEAD - Clyde Wayne Raines, age 64, of Gibson Road, Goshen, OH, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at his residence.
Born November 10, 1944, in Middlesboro, KY, he was the son of the late Robert and Ruby Poore Raines. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Gwen Raines.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Charlotte Alfrey Raines; one brother, Donnie Joe (Diane) Raines, Sr., of Loveland, OH; one sister, Sue Thomas of New Richmond, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clyde served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and retired from the Loveland Post Office. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Loveland, OH.
Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2009, at the Ginter Cemetery in Menifee County with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Active pallbearers will be Donnie Joe Raines, Jr., Ed Dean, Harvard Bourque, John Quesinberry, Will Quesinberry, and Tim Robinson. Harvard C. Alfrey will be an honorary pallbearer.
