Kenneth Earl Catron Sr.
MOREHEAD - Kenneth Earl Catron, Sr., age 82, of Franklin, KY, formerly of Elliott County, KY, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at his residence.
He was the son of the late John Daniel and Lula Jane Crumb Catron. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Rebecca Jane Catron Murray, and three brothers, Robert Catron, Orville Leon Catron, and Cleo Scotland Catron.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Dolores Catron; three sons, Kenneth Earl Catron, Jr. and wife Margaret Ann of Science Hill, KY, Jeffery Dale Catron of Aberdeen, SD, and Will Daniel Catron, Sr., of Franklin, KY; three brothers, Roy Catron of Massillon, OH, Virgil Vernon Catron of Berea, KY, and Clell Dexter Catron of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mr. Catron was a member of the Stevenson United Methodist Church, Franklin Simpson Gideons, and Simpson Benevolent Lodge #177. He was also a Royal Arch Mason. A U. S. Army World War II veteran of the 4th Infantry, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of Berea College and was in management with Southern States Co-op.
A graveside service was held 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Catron Cemetery in Elliott County, KY, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Full military rites were conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Christine Pennington Kidd 1945-2008
MOREHEAD – Christine Pennington Kidd, age 62, of Harold, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008, at her residence.
She was born December 24, 1945, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and is the daughter of Eula Sloan Osborne Conley of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late John Campbell Osborne.
In addition to her mother, Christine is survived by four daughters, Christa Robinson and husband Timothy of Morehead, Kentucky, Sherry Ray and husband Ryan of Pikeville, Kentucky, Sharon Hall and husband Andrew of Clintwood, Virginia, and Anita Hall of Harold, Kentucky; eight granddaughters, Heather, Sara, Racheal, Emily, Rebecca, Madison, Morgan, and McKenzie; and five grandsons, Cory, Andy, Nicky, Nathaniel, and Caleb.
Also surviving are seven sisters, Pauline Bowling of Hickman, Kentucky, Verleen Adkins of Morehead, Kentucky, Kathleen Purnell of Morehead, Kentucky, Thelma Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio, Barbara Estep of Dayton, Ohio, Irene Fultz of Morehead, Kentucky, and Marcella Hamm of Elliottville, Kentucky; two brothers, David Osborne of Morehead, Kentucky, and Ricky Osborne of Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Christine’s life focused on family and friends. A devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed being home, listening to gospel music, and spending time with family. She loved her children and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren. A forgiving and unselfish person, Christine relied on Jesus throughout her life.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Hamm officiating. Burial was in the Fraley-Osborne Cemetery on Kegley Ridge, Morehead.
Pallbearers were David Osborne, Ricky Osborne, Jack Smith, Ernest Purnell, Woody Estep, Troy Adkins, Eric Winkleman, Richard Winkleman, and Joey Osborne.
Visitation for Christine Pennington Kidd was after 6 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008, and all day Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Jewell Dean Blankenbeckler Skaggs 1938-2008
MOREHEAD – Jewell Dean Blankenbeckler Skaggs, age 69, of Sandy Hook, KY, peacefully entered the loving arms of her Savior on July 19, 2008, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY, surrounded by her caring family and friends after a long illness.
Born December 2, 1938, at Ault, KY, in Elliott County, she is the daughter of Lovell LeMaster Blankenbeckler of Sandy Hook, KY, and the late Charlie Blankenbeckler. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by two sons, Kendell Skaggs in 1973, and Randell Skaggs in 1978.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Elliott Skaggs; four sons, Donald Skaggs and wife Paula and Ronald “Jay” Skaggs and wife Patti, all of Morehead, KY, and Charles “Darren” Skaggs and wife Vickie and Wendell Skaggs and wife Nikki, all of Elliott County, KY; one sister, Joyce Skaggs and husband Lonnie of Sandy Hook, KY; 21 grandchildren, including Randall Jay whom she raised; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Jewell loved spending time with her family, especially holiday get-togethers, and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and quilting. She was of the Baptist faith, and during the 30 years she lived in Mansfield, Ohio, attended the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church regularly.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Copley and the Rev. Austin Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Skaggs Cemetery in Elliott County.
Pallbearers will be Chris Skaggs, Kyle Skaggs, Tyler Skaggs, Jesse Skaggs, Michael Skaggs, Travis Townsend. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Gilliam, David Garris, Brandon Riggsby, and Zachary Carter.
Visitation is after 7 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, and anytime Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
