Dorothy L. Bowen Harding
FLORENCE – Dorothy L. Bowen Harding, 84, of Florence and formerly of Morehead, passed away Thursday, April 24 at St. Elizabeth Med Cnt. Hospice in Edgewood.
Harding had worked as an assembler at Wadsworth Electric Company and was affiliated with the Erlanger First Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by her husband, Grover “G.H.” Harding of Florence, son Michael Cox of Florence, brothers Samuel Bowen, Jr. of Burlington, Gene Bowen of Spencer, Ind., and Jimmy Bowen of Bloomfield, Ind., sisters Evelyn Abney of Spencer, Ind., Bobbie Chandler of Indianapolis, Ind., Reba Lehman of Covington, Karen Yarnee of Fairlane, Ind., and Sharon Campbell of Farmersburg, Ind. Her father and mother, Samuel and Pearl (Withrow) Bowen, preceded her in death. Mrs. Harding had two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were at the Stith Funderal Home in Florence on Monday, April 28. Burial followed in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens at Taylor Mill. Memorial contributions may be made to Erlanger First Church of the Nazarene, 21 Short Hill Lane, Erlanger, KY 41018.
Paul P. Jennings 1940-2008
MOREHEAD – Paul P. Jennings, 67, of Big Woods Road passed away Friday morning, April 25, 2008 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center after an illness of several weeks.
He was born on May 17, 1940 in Johnson County, Kentucky, a son of the late Press and Maude Bell Jennings.
Paul was a former Coalminer, Insurance Agent and Milk Truck Driver. He enjoyed doing all kinds of work, especially repairing and fixing things. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith and attended the Sharkey Free Will Baptist Church. His favorite things to do were read his Bible and share his testimony for the Lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Press Jennings, Jr., Douglas Jennings, Ronnie Jennings, Robert Jennings and Roger Jennings.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Mickey) Glover Jennings of Morehead, one son, Paul Jennings, Jr. of Morehead, two daughters, Lisa Ann Christian of Van Lear, Kentucky and Kimberly Jo Martin and her husband, James of Staffordsville, Kentucky, a step-son, Clinton Hamm and his wife, Toni of Cincinnati, Ohio, one brother, Charles Jennings of Baron Springs, Virginia, two sisters, Barbara Travis of Fairborn, Ohio and Shelby McLaughlin of Lebanon, Ohio, two grandchildren, Derek Christian and Austin Martin, three step-grandchildren, Jared, Joshua and Jessie and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Hamm, Bob Adams, Rodney Gregory, Roger Stigall, Rufus Williams and Herbert Hyatt and honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Carroll, Merle Jones, Charles Jennings, Chuck Jennings and Dewayne Gregory.

Kenneth L. Speer 1929-2008
Speer, Kenneth L., 78, died Fri., Apr. 25, 2008 at the Hospice Care Center. Born August 22, 1929 in Rhea, OK, a small town his grandfather help found and operated the county general store. His parents were the late Clarence Debs and Irene Speer. Mr. Speer attended Rhea country school and Leedey High School. The family moved to Taloga, OK in 1945 where he graduated from high school in 1946. He went on to attend Oklahoma A & M from 1946 to 1948. Mr. Speer was a Korean War Veteran, serving 2 years, stationed with the 194th Field Artillery Bn. in Wertheim Germany. Upon returning from the service he enrolled in Southwestern State University in Weatherford, OK, where he completed his BS degree. It was here he met his college sweetheart, Elaine McClure, and they were married in December 1955. After graduating he was employed by the Cowden Manufacturing Company of Lexington, KY, who had a plant in Woodward, OK. He was later transferred to Kentucky by the Cowden Company, and served as plant manager of the Morehead Plant, later manager of the Mt. Sterling plant, and finally division manager of Cowden Plants in eastern Kentucky. In 1979, he and a partner formed a company, TOCOCO, Inc. which operated plants in Midway and Wilmore, KY. He had two passions, one was to be a full time professional grandpa, and the other was to serve his church. They moved to Lexington in November 1972 and joined Immanuel Baptist Church. He served as a director of Adult Sunday School Department since 1973 and several terms on the finance committee. He found the most fun and pleasure however as serving as the construction coordinator of the church’s Habitat Ministry, helping build 15 Habitat houses for Immanuel Baptist Church. He was nominated as hero of the year for the American Red Cross because of his work with Habitat. Survivors other than his wife, include a son, Douglas K. Speer; two granddaughters, Cassidy Leigh Speer and Emily Taylor Speer; a brother, Ronnie Speer; two sisters, Karen (Alan) Riffle and Gayle Acton; and stepmother, Retta Speer. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory K. Speer and grandson, Cody McClure Speer. Funeral services will be 10 am Tues. at Immanuel Baptist Church by Dr. Greg Loscalzo. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Mon. at the church. Contributions are suggested to Immanuel Baptist Church Habitat Fund, 3100 Tates Creek Rd., Lex., Ky 40502. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. is handling the arrangements.
