Joseph Verl Archer
1948-2008


MOREHEAD - Joseph Verl Archer, 59, of the Life Care Center, Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Trenton, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008.

He was born October 20, 1948, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Frank and Ethel Ward Archer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harlan Barker, Willard Swanigan and Dan Davis.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Barbara Lawson Archer, and two daughters, Dawn Stephens and her husband Ed and Amber Archer, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and five grandchildren, Ed Stephens III, Tiffani Stephens, Bryan Sedam, Kristopher Sedam, and Rebekkah Sedam. Also surviving are two sisters, Wilma Blevins and husband Ronnie, and Elizabeth Bond and husband Jeff, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Graveside services and burial were 3 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, at the Manning Chapel Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky, with Brother Lonnie Conn and the Rev. Lloyd Dean officiating.

Pallbearers: Ed Stephens, Jerry Bryant, Roy Sparks, Charlie Wise, Harold Zeigler, and Ora Lee Hamm.

Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Willis Kirk “Bill” Carter, Jr.
1919-2008


MOREHEAD – Willis Kirk “Bill” Carter, Jr., 89, of Kentucky Highway 173 passed away Thursday, March 20, 2008 in the Elliott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.

He was born on January 26, 1919 in Elliott County, Kentucky, a son of the late Willis Kirk Carter and Lula Brown Carter.

Mr. Carter was a carpenter, farmer and a former employee of Carr Lumber Company having worked there for 20 years. He was a United States Navy Veteran having proudly served his country during World War II. Mr. Carter was a founding member of the Elliott County VFW Post #11428, a member of the Elliott County American Legion Post #171 and a 58 year member of the Hepburn Masonic Lodge #576 F & AM in Sandy Hook. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a board member of the Rowan County Farm Bureau and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, visiting with people and bluegrass music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Berniece Stegall Carter who passed away on January 11, 1989, four brothers, Hawley Carter, Ora Carter, Elbert Carter and Atley Carter and three sisters, Lucy Meek, Lorene McCarty and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Ann Denton Carter of Morehead, one son, Jack G. Carter and his wife, Susie of Morehead, two step-sons, two brothers, Avery Carter of Springfield, Ohio and Glen Carter of Elliott County, three sisters, Elba Fraley of Elliott County, Kathleen Williams of Phoenix, Arizona and Lena Adams of Morehead, twin granddaughters, Andrea Counts and Allison Fultz, twin great-grandchildren, Matthew and McKayla Fultz, two step-grandsons, one step-great-grandson and longtime special Navy friend, Frank Gillum of Elliott County.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 22, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Weaver and Rev. Greg McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Elliott County VFW Post #11428. Visitation is after 4:00 P.M. Friday. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday by the Hepburn Masonic Lodge #576 F & AM.

Pallbearers will be Mark McCarty, Jeff McCarty, Adam McCarty, Todd Carter, Roger Dale Mason and Dickie Stegall and honorary pallbearers will be Frank Gillum, Daryl Fultz, Arnold King and Vernon Mabry.

Elmer (Ken) Kinder
1927-2008


MOREHEAD - Elmer (Ken) Kinder, Jr., 80, Muncie, Indiana, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 16, 2008.

Born November 20, 1927, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Elmer and Myrle Hogge Kinder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Kinder, and a daughter, Adele Kinder.

He is survived by one sister, Jane Kinder Curtis (Glen) of Beckley, West Virginia; three brothers, Paul (Gypsy) Kinder of Wilmington, Ohio, Denver Kinder of Morehead, Kentucky, and Gilbert Kinder of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; three nieces; seven nephews; and a special friend Sara Bantz.

Mr. Kinder was still active with Kinder Investments and was previously a real estate broker. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 433, enjoyed traveling and life. Ken attended the True Light Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden with the Rev. Paul Jackson officiating. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Ronald Lambert Sr.
1947-2008


OLIVE HILL - Ronald B. Lambert Sr., 60, of Olive Hill, KY, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY.

He was born November 11, 1947 in Rowan County, KY, a son of the late Elwood Reed and Vivian Lambert.

He was a truck driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents who helped raise him, Alex and Melissa Lambert of Clearfield, KY; 2 brothers, Cecil Lambert and Billy Porter, and 2 sisters, Lura Lambert and Lena Lambert.

His survivors include long time companion, Mary Lambert of Olive Hill; 1 son, Ronald (Beau) Lambert, Jr. of Olive Hill; 2 daughters, Angela (Wayne) Kelsey of Morehead, KY and Misty (Wesley) Blevins of Willard, KY; 2 brothers, Barry (Carol) Porter of Gladstone, MI and Jerry Reed of WV; 3 sisters, Diane (Jay) Herwehe of Yorktown, IN, Shelia (Steve) Sauder of Danville, KY and Nila Gay (Walter) Will of Shelby, OH and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Gregoryville Christian Holiness Church with Lewis Davis officiating. Larry Earl McRoberts
1952-2008


MOREHEAD - Larry Earl McRoberts, 55, of State Highway 174, Olive Hill, Kentucky, nicknamed by his friends, “Lawnmower Larry, Lawnmower Head,” passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at his residence.

Born September 2, 1952, in Hamilton, Ohio, he is the son of Everett and Madeline Viars McRoberts, of Olive Hill, Kentucky.

He is also survived by his wife, Teresa Griffey McRoberts; two sons, Anthony Lee and Rachelle McRoberts of California and Brian Neil and Christine McRoberts of Grayson, Kentucky; two daughters, Sharon Suttles and her children--his granddaughter Leighann Stamper and his grandson the late Landen Stamper, who preceded him in death on February 5, 2008, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Stephanie Adkins of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and her children--his grandson Dakota Adkins and granddaughter Kirsten Adkins of Grayson, Kentucky.

Also surviving are one brother, Larry Randall and Stephanie McRoberts of Olive Hill, Kentucky; three sisters, Judy May and Jim Schumacher of Middletown, Ohio, Linda Lee Miller and Jeff Hicks of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Kathy Diana James and Nick Schatz of Morehead, Kentucky; grandchildren, Colton McRoberts, Lowgan McRoberts, Trent McRoberts of California, Connor McRoberts of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Katherine and Samantha McRoberts of Grayson, Kentucky; two Goddaughters, Rachel and Kimberly Collins of Morehead, Kentucky; and special best friend, Wendell Collins of Farmers, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his older brother, Raymond Lee McRoberts of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and three children.

Larry was a former employee of Big 4 Lumber Company where he was a mechanic specializing in small engine and lawn mower repair. He enjoyed collecting toy cars and had a large collection of Hot Wheels and antique toys. Larry served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal 2/60 Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tim Bailey and Brother Tom James officiating. Burial will follow in the Vanhoose Cemetery on Garvin Ridge Road in Olive Hill with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers will be his friends and former coworkers at Big 4 Lumber.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Rachael Overstreet Picazo
1925-2008


MOREHEAD - Mrs. Rachael Overstreet Picazo passed away at her home near Morehead, Kentucky, on March 18, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Mardy E. Picazo, a brother, five children, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Born May 10, 1925, to Paul and Louise Overstreet, Rachael Picazo was a well-known missionary radio personality who, with her husband, served with Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute (now KMBC) and its affiliate, Radio WMTC prior to 1952. They then spent 40 years in Haiti with Radio 4VEH: first with the East & West Indies Bible Mission and then, after 1958, with OMS International. In the mid-1990s she and Mardy retired to the former Overstreet farm on Hayes Branch.

Friends and family are invited to come to the United Methodist Church on 227 West Main, Morehead at noon on Tuesday, March 25, for a gathering of remembrance. The memorial service will commence at 1 PM in the church. Interment will follow at Lee Cemetery.

Expressions of condolence may be made through the Morehead United Methodist Church, 227 West Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351.

MOREHEAD - Arianna Gabrielle White, 7 days old, beloved daughter of Cathy Lynn Misra and Emmanuel Christopher Nathan White of KY 801 North, Morehead, Kentucky, was born March 11, 2008, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, and passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at Babyland in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
