Hildred Ellis Brown
1923-2008

Hildreth Ellis Brown, age 84, of Little Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center.

Born December 22, 1923, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late George and Lala McKinney Ellis. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd J. Brown who passed away February 28, 2002; and a brother Forest Lee Ellis.

Mrs. Brown is survived by one daughter, Karlene and husband Orville Little of Morehead, Kentucky; two sisters, Hazel Pennix of Oklahoma; Jewell Moore of Haines City, Florida; two grandchildren, Amy and Jon; and two great-grandchildren, Katlyn and Harlan.

Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle Church of God. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening and attending church.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Clark and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barrett Frances, Heath Loper, Shelby Mauk, Earl Nickell, Frank Mauk, and Gordon Donahue.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Ollie Potts

WINCHESTER – Ollie Snipes Potts, 86, of Dillon Drive, Morehead, widow of the late Lee Potts, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at St. Claire Medical Center at Morehead.

She was born in Carter County to the late Lilburn and Della Holbrook Snipes. She was a homemaker and member of the Elliottville Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra and Randall Stevens of Soldier; Donna and Tim Gilliam of Morehead; and Carol Barnard; 14 grandchildren, Robbie and Darlene Keeton, Reva and Perry Bohannan, Wayne and Donna Keeton, Hollie and Shane Greene, Tommy Combs, Tammy Hollon, Penny and Billy Henderson, Eric Stevens, Phillip Barnard, Anissa and Eddie Sorrell, Bo and Heather Mullins, Jennifer Mullins and Audrey Gilliam; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by five children, Wayne Lunsford, David Potts, Danny Lunsford, Edith Keeton, Linda Hollon and 11 brothers and sisters.

Services were Monday, Jan. 28 at the Scobee Funeral Home at Winchester with the Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial at Winchester Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Eric Stevens, Randall Stevens, Tim Gilliam, Bo Mullins, Wayne Keeton and Robert Keeton. Honorary pallbearers: Eddie Sorrell and Billy Henderson.

Phyllis Johnson Smith
1945-2008

MOREHEAD – Phyllis Johnson Smith, 63, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008 in the Heartland of Kettering in Kettering, Ohio.

She was born on January 8, 1945 in Elliott County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Festus and Arlena Porter Johnson.

She was a former kitchen supervisor for Bob Evans Restaurant. She was of the Protestant Faith and enjoyed flowers, gardening and caring for her Dachshund dogs.

Survivors include one son, Danny Smith of Dayton, Ohio, one brother, Tex Johnson and his wife, Thelma of Elliottville, one grandson, Elijah Smith, a special aunt, Jewell Watkins of Dayton, Ohio and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery. Visitation is after 11:00 A.M. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Butts, Don Arnold Williams, Damon Johnson, Stan Johnson, Dan Smith and Tex Johnson.
