A Morehead woman has died after being involved in a motorcycle wreck in Carter County.
Kentucky State Police in Ashland said the accident occurred at 5:37 p.m. on Sunday, close to the junction of Reeves Lane on US 60 West at Globe.
Police said Marsha Scott, 61, of Morehead was operating a 2006 Pontiac Montana mini-van and was turning left onto US 60 from Reeve’s Lane, when she failed to observe a motorcycle which was traveling eastbound.
The motorbike, a 2000 Suzuki Marauder, was operated by Terry Johnson, 43, also of Morehead, with his wife, Tonya Michelle Johnson, 43, as a passenger.
Evidence on scene indicated Johnson attempted to avoid the collision through braking, before laying the bike over on its left side, but was ultimately unable to dodge the mini-van. The motorcycle struck the mini-van close to its front left fender.
Tonya Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Terry Johnson was transported to St. Claire Medical Center for treatment, and was later airlifted to UK hospital in Lexington. Both were wearing helmets. Neither occupant of the Pontiac was injured.
No criminal charges have been filed as a result of the crash, and alcohol is not a suspected contributor.
The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Bobby King, who was assisted on scene by Carter County EMS, the Carter County Coroner’s Office, and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
