The Rowan County Board of Education will hold a public hearing in the board's meeting room in the old Rowan County Middle School on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m.
The board will hear comments regarding a proposed general fund tax levy of 56.8 cents and a personal property tax of 56.8 cents.
Those rates produced $6.38 million in revenue in 2016.
The same rates for 2016-2017 will produce $6.54 million. Of this amount, $962,344 is from new property.
The compensating rate for 2017 is 56 cents for real and 56 cents for personal property and is expected to produce $6.45 million.
The general areas to which the additional $155,645 in revenue is to be allocated is $6,226 to cost of collections, $17,744 to building fund and $131,645 to instruction.
The board will adopt the rates in a special meeting following the tax hearing.
