Martin Luther King Jr. holiday events

Morehead State University will pay tribute to slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on Monday, Jan. 15.
The campus and Morehead communities will come together to celebrate his life with “Aspiring to Greatness, Realizing the Dream.” The 21st annual event will start with a traditional candlelight vigil and march, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Little Bell Tower on campus.
Participants will march to the Morehead First Christian Church, located at 227 E. Main St., for a 7 p.m. program. Five keynote speakers will pay homage to Dr. King, using the prompt, “What would Martin say?”
Dr. Vinnette Little, internal medicine physician at the Morehead Clinic, will discuss “What would Martin say about health care?” Dr. Little’s talk will be followed by presentations by several MSU faculty and staff members.
Dr. Kevin Jones, assistant professor of education, will speak on “What would Martin say about equity and diversity in higher education?” Dr. Ric Caric, professor of government, will discuss, “What would Martin say about colorblindness?” Kevin Koett, dean of students, will talk about “What would Martin say about his beloved dream – is it alive today?”
Dr. Lola Smith, instructor of information systems, will follow Koett with “What would Martin say about the impact of technology on his dream?”
After the main program, MSU President Wayne D. Andrews will offer closing remarks. A reception will follow.
The event is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services, the Office of the Provost and the Rowan County Ministerial Association
