Eagle baseball sweeps the series with Buffalo

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Eric Allen smacked a three-run home run to back the complete-game pitching of Michael Bottoms, and the Morehead State Baseball Eagles took the opener of a Sunday (March 2) afternoon doubleheader at Allen Field. After MSU won the opener 5-1, Buffalo won the nightcap, 10-3, and the Bulls salvaged one game in the four-game series.
MSU is now 4-3 on the season after sweeping on Saturday and splitting on Sunday. Buffalo picked up its first win of 2008 by winning the series finale and is 1-6 on the season.
With MSU trailing 1-0, Allen hit his second home run of the season in the third inning. J.D. Ashbrook drew a one-out walk and Drew Lee singled, setting the stage for Allen’s round tripper. The Eagles added two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Travis Redmon and a Buffalo throwing error.
Bottoms (2-0) won his second game of the season in his first start of 2008. He went the distance in the seven-inning contest, allowing only four hits and one earned run. Buffalo starter Dan Francis (0-2) allowed six hits and four earned runs in five and two-thirds innings and took the loss.
In the second game, Buffalo’s Jacob Rosenbeck hit two home runs, and Shivam Bhan , Eric Flynn and Brian Randazzo each had one home run. Bull starter Mark Tourangeau (1-0) got the win.
Andrew Wertz knocked in two of the three Eagle runs in game two with a pair of singles. Trent Hanna accounted for the other MSU run with a solo homer. Starter Trey Smith (0-2) allowed six hits and three runs in three innings pitched and suffered the loss.

Morehead State returns to action with a 3 p.m. EST home game against Xavier on Tuesday (March 4).
