NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Morehead State junior forward Leon Buchanan (Albany, Ga.) has been named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week.
It marks the third time that Buchanan has won the award out-right or shared it in 2007-08.  This week, he shares the honor with Tennessee-Martin's Djero Riedewald.
Buchanan averaged 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game last week as the Eagles split a pair of league games.
He had 14 points and four rebounds in the team’s Thursday win over Southeast Missouri State (75-63), and had nine points and 10 rebounds in a Saturday loss to Murray State (64-52).
"Leon continues to provide us with a very consistent presence in the front court," said MSU coach Donnie Tyndall.  "His excellent practice habits are transferred into success in our games.  Through his hard work, he is among the OVC statistical leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and free throw percentage."
Buchanan was previously named Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 19 and Dec. 3.
He and the Eagles travel to Samford (8:30 p.m. EST, Feb. 14) and Jacksonville State (5 p.m.  EST, Feb. 16) for key OVC games this week.
