MSU men, women ranked in NCAA hoops stats

MOREHEAD, Ky. - When the latest NCAA Statistics report was released late last month, the Morehead State men's and women's basketball teams, along with several individuals on those teams, were listed among the nation's leaders.

In NCAA Division I women's basketball, Morehead State ranks second in the nation in blocked shots per game (6.9). The Eagles broke the school single season record last Saturday against Jacksonville State and now have 124 rejections on the year. The Eagle women also rank in the top five in the nation in three-pointers made per game (8.1, 5th) and three-pointers attempted per game (23.6, 4th).

Individually, MSU's Brittany Pittman continues to rank third in the nation in blocks per game (4.2) while sharpshooting senior Tarah Combs dots the list as the nation's fourth best three-point shooter with 3.3 per game. Her eight three-pointer effort against Jacksonville State on Jan. 19 is tied for the third highest game in Division I this season.

Pittman's 23 rebounds against JSU on Saturday also makes the list of the best individual games so far, coming in as the third highest rebounding game. The Eagles broke a school record with 15 total three-pointers against JSU, and that is tied for the 10th highest number of treys in a game this season. Anitha Smith-Williams boasts the 6th best assist game in the country this season with 14 versus Alice Lloyd.

On the men's side, senior floor leader and point guard Nikola Stojakovic ranks seventh in the nation in assists per game with 6.8, while his efficiency also has him ranking 29th in the country in assist/turnover ratio.

Junior forward Leon Buchanan ranks 42nd nationally in free throw percentage, but his 15-for-15 perfect game at Bowling Green earlier this year is the best free throw percentage in a game of any Division I player in 2007-2008 so far.
