Tiny Twisters head to the Motor City

Two young Dynamite Twisters will be traveling to Detroit to compete in the Junior Olympic Games July 28-Aug 2.

The two gymnasts are stepsisters 11-year-old Haleigh Mayse and 7-year-old Hailey Conley. Both girls are very happy with their success in qualifying for the upcoming event.

“I feel excited,” said Mayse.

“I am excited but I am kind of nervous,” said Conley.

Before the girls were able to participate in the Olympic competition, Arica Conley, Hailey’s mother, said they had to qualify at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) State Meet in Somerset.

Coach Nicole Wolf said there is a lot of work that goes into participating in the meets and qualifying. For gymnasts it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve the highest honors in major competitions.

“They practice three times a week and because they are going to the Junior Olympics they practice from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day,” Wolf said. “They work out five hours addition to that.”

Each gymnast will compete in his or her own level, Wolf said. Everyone will receive medals in the Olympic competition. The person who places first place overall will receive a plaque.

“Theses girls represent the state of Kentucky,” Wolf said. “That is why they are wearing their special leotards. I think this will boost their confidence on Trampoline. They have been competing for only two years and they have come this far. I am so proud of them.”

“I’m very proud of her (Haleigh). She worked very hard to get where she is,” said Arica Conley. “She has excelled in the sport.”

Raleigh’s mother said she is very nervous for her daughter. “She (Hailey) is a natural athlete. She always does what she is told and there is no fear associated with that,” said Hailey’s father Chris Conley. “She’s been doing this since she was 3.”

“She’s amazing (Hailey). She is a talented young lady. She is determined. She always puts her best foot forward,” said Hailey’s mother Robin Conley.

Conley said that she has confidence in her daughter and her performance. She said that Hailey always does her best and that she knew that Hailey would do well at the competition.

“We had a great season and I am proud of each and every one of the kids on my team,” Wolf said. “We have exceptional talent on this team and this will, continue on in the future.”
