Vikings pillage Crushers

It was a win for the Vikings when they went to bat against the Crushers on Tuesday night in the second round of the 10-13 year old softball tournament, with a final score of 13-6.

It was the top of the first inning and the Vikings were at bat. When Tristan Nolan stepped up to the plate she popped out at first. Chelsea Bailey hit a pop fly to right field for a triple. Kelsey Stephens struck out and Becca Stamm hit a grounder to shortstop for the force out at first.

It was the bottom of he first inning and the Crushers went to the plate. Faith Conn popped out at first and Allie Brown hit a pop out to shortstop. Lacey Dahle struck out, ending the no-score inning.

Morgan Wintermute hit a fly to center field for a double. Mariah Greene hit to center, landing an in-the-park home run. Baileigh Garvin popped out to pitcher and Alexa VanRoyce walked. Emily Ball and Nolan walked to load. Bailey hit a single with one RBI. Wallace hit a single while Wintermute and Royce Ball ran home. Chelsea Bailey smacked the ball to center field for a single and Kelsey Stephens walked. Stamm hit the all to the Alli Banks who made the throw to second for a fielder’s choice. Lauren Bauer hit to center for a single and Rheonne Arnett hit the ball to the far right field for a double, sending Stamm and Bauer home. Back at the top of the lineup, Nolan hit a 3-0 pitch to left field for a single. Bailey hit a grounder down the first baseline, sending the Crushers to the plate.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the second, Crushers’ batter Taylor Linden grounded out to Nolan on the mound. Kristen Royce hit a grounder down the first baseline for a single. Allie Brown popped out to first base and Faith Conn hit the ball for a single. Brown stole third base and came home on a ground out by Lacey Pitts.

Wintermute hit a fly to left field for a double and Greene hit to center and was safe at first. Garvin got a double and sent Wintermute and Greene home. VanRoyce popped out at first and Dahle walked. Wallace hit a grounder and sent Garvin home and Bauer and Barnett walked. Nolan hit a grounder to shortstop, who threw to first but the first baseman missed it. Greene stole third and Nolan ran to steal second. Ball hit a fly to the shortstop for a single and Nolan rant to third. Garvin hit a fly for a triple. Outfielders scrambled for the ball as Nolan and Garvin ran home. The teams changed places because of the 7-run rule.

Nicole Plank struck out swinging in the bottom of three. Mallory Muncy and Kiersten May walked. Lacey Pitts ground out to first and Allie Banks sent a fly to the first baseman, who flipped it to third for the final out of the inning.

At the top of the fourth Stamm hit a single. Wintermute ground out to pitcher and Greene hit a baseline grounder for a single. Garvin hit a fly to left field for a single and Stamm was safe at second. VanRoyce hit a fly to center for a double. Dahle ground out while Royce and Stamm came home.

Pitts doubled in the bottom of the fourth and Conn smacked the ball past the pitcher to center and landed a triple with one RBI. Banks ground out to the shortstop but sent in Conn. Dahle struck out swinging. Linden walked, but was left on when Kristen Royce popped out at first.

In the top fifth Wallace singled and Barnette walked. Ball walked to first and Wallace stole home. Stamm hit a pop out to center. Stephens hit a pop out with a double play on Ball, who was out at second. Bailey struck out swinging to end the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Crushers made their last stand for a rally. Brown struck out swinging and Plank walked. Muncy doubled with one RBI and scored on a wild pitch to May. May was walked and came home as Pitts ground out for a final score of 13-6.
