Mets crack 18 hits in win

The Mets beat the Rangers in a run-rule four innings on Wednesday night in Major Little League action at City Park. In the win the guys in orange smacked a season-best 18 hits.

The Mets, who now have a 5-1 season, scored five runs in the first inning. Sebastian Taylor hit his first home run, the team’s third, during the first at-bat. The ball was a 250-foot shot over the left field fence. The night before, teammate Alex Cecil swatted two round-trippers for the Mets.

Taylor and Cecil combined pitching for a three hit game with nine strikeouts in four innings. Taylor allowed one hit and one BB. Cecil had two hits and one BB.

“The kids were really aggressive at the plate with 18 hits,” Mets Coach Bruce Cecil said. “It sure makes coaching easy when they hit it like that.”

Taylor and Cecil were both 3-3 at bat. Austin Johnson, Spencer Griggs and Brandon Hutchinson also hit three for three. J. Carpenter was 2-3 and Lucas Helton was1-2 at the plate.

In local Little League girl’s softball action on May 5, Thunder took the Bat Cats 10-1 in the 6-9-year-old division. Lightning had a 7-2 victory over The Clovers. The Shockers shocked the Fireflies with a surprise run in the fifth to take the 9-8 win.

Tuesday, May 6, the girls took the field again for rain make up games. The Clovers had 11 unanswered runs for a victory over the Bat Cats. Thunder took the Shockers 12-3, which brings them to a 5-1 record for the season so far. The Lightning, who also have a 5-1 record, overcame the Fireflies 15-10.
