The Devil Rays ended hopes of an undefeated season for the Mets Monday night in local Little League action. A 6-run rally in the bottom of the sixth pushed the Rays past the Mets for an 11-10 victory.
“It feels good to get a win like this,” said Rays Coach Thad Callahan. “The Mets are a very good team and they made us earn it. I am extremely happy for my guys.”
Rays pitcher Jordan Tipton went four strong with 11 strikeouts. Tipton’s double in the bottom of the sixth scored the winning run. Relief pitcher Jordan Harper batted two doubles for the Rays and helped earn the win defensively.
“My starting pitcher couldn’t make it to the game, so Spencer Griggs stepped in and pitched a really good game,” said Mets Coach Bruce Cecil “Spencer hasn’t pitched much at all, so I was really proud of him. He really stepped it up a notch.”
The Mets’ Alex Cecil hit a solo home run in the fourth and another in the top of the sixth, which pushed in three RBI’s.
