Big national weekend for former MSU bowlers

Two former Morehead State University bowlers are going to the Clash of the Champions this weekend in Kansas City; Kelly Kulick and Liz Johnson. Sixteen United State Bowling Congress champions from across the country plan to square off Saturday and Sunday.

The field will be narrowed in a harrowing first-round one-ball sudden death throw. That action can be seen on the CBS Sports Channel from 5-6 p.m. Saturday. The man vs. woman final will air Sunday from 4-5p.m.

Kulick made All-American every year at Morehead State, won a berth on three Team USA squads and the U.S. national amateur championship once (2000), and captured a gold medal in the 1999 WTBA World Championships in the United Arab Emirates before turning pro.

Johnson bowled at MSU before joining the Professional Women’s Bowling Association. On the pro circuit, she captured Rookie of the Year honors and a major tour victory (BPAA U.S. Women's Open) in 1996. Another PWBA career highlight came in 2001, Johnson bowled the third televised perfect 300-game in PWBA history on her way to winning the Paula Carter Classic. Johnson won the 2007 U.S. Women's Open. The event returned in 2007 from a three-year hiatus when its rights were acquired by the USBC.
