MCC to host Fourth Annual Magical Tree Walk

By Vanessa Overholser - Staff Writer

Help raise money for Rowan County Christmas (RCC) by voting and bidding for the best decorated Christmas tree, wreath or table centerpiece during the Fourth Annual Magical Christmas Tree Walk at the Morehead Conference Center Nov. 20-28.

“As always, our goal is to raise $3,000,” said conference center Manager Joy Brown. “All proceeds will go to Rowan County Christmas.”

RCC provides food vouchers and presents for needy families.

The First Magical Christmas Tree Walk was held in 2006 as a way to raise money for the RCC event hosted by local businesses.

The tree walk has been growing each year.

“In 2006, we started with 14 trees,” Brown said. “The next year, we had 29 trees. Then in 2008, we added wreaths to the tree walk and we had 32 participants in the event.”

She said the number of participants is a bit less this year. However, Brown said she was optimistic about the community’s participation.

“We have 27 participants this year,” she said. “That’s a great number for this economy.”

An additional item is included in the display this year.

“We have added table centerpieces,” Brown said. “This allows us to be able to have more participants in the event.”

The following businesses, organizations and individuals will be displaying a decorative item in the walk:

• All Seasons

• Bluegrass Discovery Academy

• City of Morehead Public Works

• Family Dollar Distribution Center

• Friends of the Library

• Holbrook Drug

• Jeanette’s Catering

• Kentucky Bank

• MCTCS PBL

• Morehead Conference Center

• Morehead State University Bookstore

• Morehead Tourism Commission

• Morehead Woman’s Club

• Painted Hills Garden Club

• Princess Tree

• SRG Global

• Stitches Etc.

• The Citizen’s Bank

• Town-N-Country Homemakers

• US Bank

• Wal-Mart

• Wendy, Dana and Melanie

• West Liberty Nursing Center

• Whitaker Bank

• Federal Savings and Loan

“Last year, we decided that the business, organization, or individual with the winning d้cor would receive a plague that will be displayed in front of the MCC,” Brown said. “We thought it would be a neat way to let people know that we appreciate them.”

“On Nov. 19, participants bring their decorative items to set them up for display,” Brown said. “Then the public is invited to come to the MCC to view, vote and place money in the collection box next to the displays in the front hallway of the center. The item with the most money at the end of the walk will win.”

All d้cor items are considered sold on the final day of the walk - Nov. 28. On that day a bell will toll at 5:55 p.m. signifying a five-minute warning. All bidding closes promptly at 6 p.m. Winning bidders have one week to remove their d้cor from the facility. Facility hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public. Payments for the silent auction are due upon d้cor pick-up. Cash and checks are accepted as payment. Checks are to be made payable to Rowan County Christmas. D้cor items must be picked up by Dec. 11.

The Morehead Conference Center is located at 111 East First Street.
