More drug charges alleged by UNITE

By Tonia Noe-Rose - Staff Writer

Two alleged drug dealers sit behind bars following their arrest by Operation UNITE in connection to the Aug. 20 take down of six other people suspected of drug trafficking.

Ottawl D. Conrad, 28, of North Blair Street and 36-year-old Thomas R. Carroll, of Bluestone, were served indictments Wednesday on charges of trafficking cocaine and other controlled substances. Conrad was taken in by a member of UNITE and Carroll was arrested by the Morehead Police.

Conrad faces two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, cocaine, and one count of second-degree persistent felony offender.

Carroll is charged with eight counts of first-degree trafficking in controlled substances, OxyContin and Methadone, one count of trafficking in marijuana and one charge of second-degree persistent felony offender.

These are the latest arrests resulting in a six-month undercover investigation by UNITE.

Carroll remains in the Rowan County Detention Center on a $50,000 full-cash bond and Conrad is being detained on a $5,000 full-cash bond.

Also charged Aug. 20 was Bath County resident Dennis L. Carroll, 42, of Salt Lick, who is suspected by authorities of being the middleman in an alleged out-of-state crack cocaine trafficking operation. He remains in jail without bond.

Dennis Kyle Wilson, 28, of Ashley Drive along Christy Creek, also was arrested and charged with first–degree trafficking in a controlled substance. Wilson’s whereabouts were not available for the Aug. 26 edition of The Morehead News. But since, Dale Morton, communications director for UNITE, confirmed that Wilson was actually arrested July 14. He posted bond the same day and was released.

According to residents in the Elliottville area, Wilson was the former owner of the Elliottville Country Kitchen. Following the sudden closing of the diner, the new owners, Jason Carter, 35, and 32-year-old Roger Martin, of Olive Hill, were arrested and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance. Both Carter and Martin remain in the Rowan County Detention Center. Police have made no connection to Wilson or the new owners.

Others arrested Aug. 20 by UNITE and officers with the Morehead Police, Kentucky State Police and Rowan County Sheriff’s Department were:

• Jessica F. Barber, 30, of Morehead.

• Roy M. Conn, 20, of South Mill Branch Road

• Brain S. Derrickson, 28, of Old Hilda Road

• James Powell, 38, of Barber Street

According to a recent court docket, Wilson, Dennis L. Carroll, Barber, Derrickson, Conn and Powell are all scheduled for arraignments today in Rowan County Circuit Court.
