Guitar Hero comes to Rowan Fair

Guitar lovers and players will be able to show off their skills at Media 1’s Guitar Hero event at the Rowan County Fair Aug. 13-14.

Media 1 Manager Ron Middleton said the videogame comes with a simulated guitar and once the game begins, a particular song is demonstrated; then the player emulates the demo by striking color coded buttons which represent guitar chords. The video game came out in 2005 and it has five games in the series.

“It’s a video game that crosses generations,” said Middleton. “It has something for everyone. The music ranges from the Monkees to Metallica.”

“It is air guitar to the next level,” Middleton said. “What we are going to give people is the opportunity to live out their rock’n roll fantasies.”

There will be a rock band night for Guitar Hero fans on Wednesday at 6 p.m. People can pay to play for fun. It costs $5 per person for two songs. The cost for groups of three or more is $15.

Music and guitar lovers will be in serious competition Thursday evening during the Guitar Hero tournament. Sign-ups will begin at the rock band event on Wednesday. A $25 gift certificate from Media 1 will be given to all winners of the tournaments.
