After more than 40 years of service the Morehead Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is moving to a new location on Stone Street.
KFC owners Doug Knipp, Barry Knipp and J.T. Stephens said it was time to build a new facility.
“We wanted to get closer to the town and closer to the college,” Doug Knipp said. “We wanted to bring something to the downtown area.”
He said the former building was outdated and owners wanted to build a more modern KFC. This is why the interior decorations of the building were done in the retro look with studio lights, bright colors and up-to-date tiles on the floor.
“I think he (Colonel Harland Sanders) would be excited with the evolution of KFC over the 60 years the store has been in business,” he said. “The 11 herbs and spices are alive and well.”
The new store will employ close to 40 people whereas the old store only employed 15. The lobby will seat 85 customers. It will feature an all-you-can-eat buffet, with 40 items to choose from.
“We can’t wait,” Knipp said. “We feel it is a home-run decision for us coming to this location of Morehead.”
“We are very excited to open the new store,” said Jeremy Madden, team member.
The owners purchased the former KFC building on KY 32 eight years ago and own 23 stores. Other KFC locations they own include Eastern Kentucky, Southern West Virginia, Southern Ohio and Southern Indiana.
Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
