Coats and food drive a success

The editor:

On behalf of Habitat for Humanity, Christian Social Services, MSU Corps and AmeriCorps, we would like to thank the citizens of Rowan County for making generous donations to the Make a Difference Day Drive for Food, Coats and Tools, which ended on Oct. 27. Through your contributions, we were able to collect 770 8-oz servings of food, 8 coats, and a box of 16d nails. The food and coats will be distributed by Christian Social Services, and the nails will be used at construction sites for Morehead Area Habitat for Humanity.

We would especially like to thank the 1st Baptist, United Methodist, and Jesus Our Savior Catholic Churches for support and genuine enthusiasm; and Guardian Industries; Slone’s, Food Lion and Kroger grocery stores; Big Four Lumber, Lowe’s Home Improvement, and Wal-Mart stores; Rowan County Public Library and Pathways; and Morehead State University, for allowing us to have collection bins on your properties. Also, we would like to thank The Morehead News for front-page coverage of our drive.

Finally, we would like to thank 7 students in UK Physician’s Assistants program at MSU and student workers in MSU Corps, who did a lot of leg work and pounding of the pavement. You were instrumental to the success of the food drive, and we can’t thank you enough.

If readers would like to make additional donations, you can take food or coats directly to Christian Social Services at 1446 East Main Street in Morehead. Contact Morehead Area Habitat for Humanity at 784-8408 if you have construction tools, or construction or office supplies to donate.
