Front-page picture offensive

The editor:

I have been a loyal subscriber to The Morehead News for 30+ years and always look forward to getting it in my mailbox no matter where I live. The people of Morehead can take pride in their hometown newspaper. I also take pride in being from eastern Kentucky.

However, I must express my shock and disappointment on the issue of The Morehead News dated September 11, 2007. I was appalled by the pictures of the two men “Wrasslin” on the front page. Should I call them “wrasslers”? So now the writers do not know how to spell wrestling? It’s no wonder that in eastern Kentucky we are labeled ignorant. There were hands locked in some kind of grip around a man’s head, makeup and sweat running all over his face. I am uncertain as to what other body parts were present in the picture. In the bottom picture, there was no mistaking what kind of grip was being used on this man, not to mention the look of rage on the perpetrator’s face and the look of the man who was having his neck squeezed. If these actions were in the name of sports (I truly must question that they are) then they should be in the sports section, so that persons interested in this kind of behavior can read about it there, and the rest of us don’t have to have these kinds of pictures thrown in our face when we get our newspapers out of the mailbox. I have one last question: is this what our children need to be seeing on the front page of The Morehead News? I appreciate the opportunity to express my opinion on this matter.
