The editor:
A few weeks ago an article and ad were printed happily announcing the 45th birthday of the St. Claire Medical Center. This was a fine tribute and some information about this remarkable medical center.
However, some more names needed to be mentioned and certainly honored. Dr. Claire Louise Caudill and Susie Halbleib, RN were not noted! Without these two giants in the progress and betterment of the town of Morehead and without their force behind the organization and building of a “good hospital,” there would have been no reason for a birthday celebration.
The hospital was fought for through bigotry, because she wanted a first-rate medical facility for her people. St. Claire is named for Dr. Louise.
Nurse Susie now walks humbly into that hospital as a volunteer.
This town owes them and their memory and so should all who work there.
