Proud of Rowan County schools

The editor:

I have just finished reading the April issue of the newsletter published by the Rowan County Schools. What a thrill it is to read about all the successes happening in your schools. Presidential Scholars, Junior Engineers, Math Awards, Music Excellence, Athletic Champions, Brain Bees, Givers and Achieving Teachers are just a few noted.

All these recognitions of excellence bring back memories of the good times I had when I served with pride in the Rowan County Schools. Certainly, Superintendent Moore, The Board of Education, teachers, parents and all who support your schools are proud of these significant achievements.

A rush of nostalgia came over me when I saw the picture of two of my favorite teachers, Brenda Wells and Wanda Conn. The new addition at Tilden Hogge will wear their names with pride, as they epitomize what good teachers should be. I also enjoyed seeing a picture of my good friend, Harold White and his grandson.

May I also say, I am proud that my son and daughter-in-law have the privilege to teach in your fine schools and that my grandson is a student. I will always hold dear in my heart the years I spent in the Rowan County Schools. May God bless all those who continue to serve and support our schools.

Editor: I was Superintendent of Rowan County Schools from 1976 to 1987. I was elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1987 and served four years in that Office. I am presently Park Manager at Pine Mountain State Resort Park in Pineville, Ky 40977. This is back home for me as I was born and raised in Bell County.
