Citizens can help renew Haldeman

The editor:
An idea was born. Citizens of Rowan County and especially those who had a passion for the Haldeman community got together and after much brain storming and many meetings formed the Haldeman/Hays Crossing Foundation to rebuild the historical Haldeman school building that was recently destroyed by fire.
In the early nineteen hundreds, Haldeman was known as the Society Settlement in Rowan county and was a modern town. The beautiful gardens, schools, medical facility, post office, company store and bountiful employment with the Clay Brick company (which also built houses for its employees) made Haldeman a prosperous community.
Like the Phoenix arising from the ashes, Haldeman will again become a vibrant community and have a center for all the community activities for young and old to enjoy.
The group that met, talked about it, and made a plan are now acting on it by donating their valuable time and money to make this dream a reality.
The community center and the advent of the Stone Mountain project at Soldier (just over the hill in Carter County) will again restore Haldeman to rival its glorious past.
We welcome and appreciate all help, dreams and ideas and we can see what working together can do.
The Foundation meets at the Hays Crossing Fire Department on US 60 East on every first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.
